Alta Maughan Brenchley
WELLSVILLE, UTAH: Alta Maughan Brenchley, 93,
life-long resident of Wellsville, Utah died peacefully
at her home on Saturday, October 9, 2004.
She was born on March 16, 1911 in Wellsville a
daughter of James N. and Jane Baxter Maughan. She
grew up in Wellsville, attended elementary and junior
high school there, graduated from South Cache High
School and also attended USAC.
On May 18, 1932 Alta married Louis H. Brenchley in the
Logan LDS Temple. Louis died on January 19, 1985. As
an active member of the LDS Church Alta served
faithfully in many capacities. She was also a very
loyal supporter of her husband in all his activities.
She was a kind, generous woman admired and respected
by all who knew her. She dearly loved all animals,
flowers, her pioneer heritage, her grandchildren, and
Yellowstone Park. She was a wonderful cook and seemed
to think her ticket into anyone’s home was a “covered
dish” to share. She was a member of the Wellsville
Jr. Literary Club an active member of the D.U.P.,
Peter Maughan Camp for many years. She worked in the
hot lunch program and was a reading specialist in the
elementary school. Hand-work was also a favorite
past-time. She was contented with the simple things
of life and always tried to find good in everyone and
everything. She surely will be missed.
Surviving are her children, Arlyn and LaDawn
Brenchley, Wellsville; Marilyn B. Froerer (Robert,
deceased) Huntsville, Utah; Clark and Euniece
Brenchley, Salem, Utah; Marie and Gail Miles, South
Ogden, Utah; Claron and LeeAnn Brenchley, Salt Lake
City; Gaylene and Brian Haderlie, Rexburg, Idaho. She
has 38 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren and three
great-great grandchildren. Alta was preceded in death
by one sister and one brother.
The family would like to give a very heart-felt thank
you to a special grandson and his wife, Cade and
Lindsay Brenchley and granddaughter, Monica B.
