Albert Raymond Lewis, Jr.
Albert Raymond Lewis, Jr. died at Sunshine Terrace on
September 18, 2007. He was born June 9, 1918 in
Dallas, Texas to Albert Raymond Lewis, Sr, and Lillie
Mae Drennan Lewis. The family moved to Houston, Texas
when Albert was a teenager, where they lived next door
to his future sweetheart and bride, Frances Lucille
Miller. They were married March 17, 1939 at the
Collins Methodist Church.
Albert served in the U.S. Army during World War II,
and later owned and managed the family business,
Houston Electro-Plating Co. He was able to enlarge the
scope of the business during his management. During
his early married years, he was active in the
Methodist Church, serving in many leadership
positions, and was primarily responsible for the
establishment of the Chapelwood Methodist Church in
the Spring Branch area of Houston, Texas. Having
joined the Masons during his war years, he served as
Grand Master of his lodge in Texas and held his
Masonic membership for over 60 years.
Albert and Frances moved from Houston to Lockhart,
Texas in 1969 and it was soon after this that the LDS
missionaries found the family and they all joined the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and
his wife were sealed in the Manti Temple a year later
in 1972.
He served in the branch presidency in San Marcos,
Texas and on the High council in Austin, Texas. Home
teaching was always a priority for Albert. He was a
loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand
father, and brother.
Albert retired from ranching to move to Salt Lake City
in 1982, where he and his wife served in the German
extraction program and also in the Salt Lake Temple
for eight years until they left for a mission to serve
among the Navajos in the New Mexico Albuquerque
Mission. Upon returning from their mission, they moved
to Logan, Utah, where they served for another eight
years in the Logan Temple.
Albert is survived by his wife and two daughters,
Virginia (Richard) Ratliff, and Nancy (Ken) Petty, six
grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a sister,
Betty Haverstock of Houston, Texas. He is preceded in
death by his sister, Rae Jean Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday,
September 22, 2007 in the Lundstrom Park First Ward,
1260 North 1600 East. There will be time to visit with
the family on Saturday at the Church from 9:30-10:30
a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Logan
City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send
donations either to Sunshine Terrace where Albert
received so much tender loving care or to IHC Hospice
in appreciation of his wonderful nurse Anna.
