Alfred England Young
RIVER HEIGHTS, UTAH: Alfred England Young, 85, died
Friday, March 21, 2008 in North Logan.
He was born July 13,1922. He was the third of 13
children born to Einar A. and Ruby England Young.
He grew up in Logan and River Heights. He went to
grade school in
Logan,
South Cache High and Logan High. In 1941 he worked in
N.Y.C. youth
program going to night school at USU. There he learned
a trade as a
General Metals Worker. He left Cache Valley the same
fall to seek
employment in San Diego, California where he used his
new metal working
skills crafting B-24 bombers. He soon became the lead
man on his shift.
While Al was in the Marine Corps, he served in the
Marshall Islands,
where his duty was to be the aircraft sheet metal
repairman for the
Third Marine Air Wing. He was honorably discharged in
May of 1946.
Alfred joined the active Army Reserve in 1950 and
served in this
program
until March of 1978 where he received many medals and
commendations. He
immensely enjoyed service to his country and the close
associations
with
people in the Reserve.
On Aug 20th 1946 he married his sweetheart IlaBeth
Summers. They were
blessed with four daughters: Ann, deceased(Lynn)
Facer, of Smithfield:
Elaine Roberts of Logan: Marina (Gerald) Heidt of
Nibley: Lynne (Rich)
Eckburg of Hyde Park. Their marriage was later
solemnized in the Logan
LDS Temple. Ilabeth passed away February 15th 1979.
Al then married Bonnie B.Davis in June 21st 1980. With
this marriage,
he
inherited five more children: Linda (Jay) Lundberg of
Phoenix, Arizona:
Brenda (Don) McCulloch of Hyde Park: Rio Davis
(Christine) of Hyde
Park:
Cindy,deceased (Archie) McDonald of Smithfield: and
Jeanette (Ivan)
Hooley of Newton.
Al and Ilabeth together built a snug little cabin in
Island Park, Idaho
This is where many days were spent, and memories made.
After
IlaBeth’s
passing, Bonnie and Al continued the family tradition
of spending as
much time “up north” that they could.
Alfred was employed for 30 years by the Department of
Interior Bureau
of
Indian Affairs, working at the Intermountain Indian
School in Brigham
City, Utah. Here he developed a great and sincere love
for the Navajo
people. Ya-ta-hay was a common phrase in Al’s daily
dialogue.
Al served in many capacities in the American Legion as
well as the
River
Heights town council. He was a member of of Church of
Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints where he was a member of the High
Priests.
Alfred was always an avid sportsman. Swimming, hiking,
bicycling,
golfing, snowmobiling, hunting, and most of all,
fishing. Fly fishing
was his favorite.
He has 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 26
step grandchildren
and 27 step great grand children, with 4 on the way.
The Family would like to thank all the staff and
residents of Pioneer
Lodge, as well as Dr. Salisbury, neighbors, and
friends for all their
kindness and thoughtful acts throughout Al’s life.
Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday March
25th,2008 at the
Providence Stake Center, 800 South 600 East in River
Heights. Friends
and family may call from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at Allen
Hall Mortuary 34
East Center in Logan and from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. Monday
at the church
prior to services. Interment will be at the Logan
Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at
Allen Mortuaries.
