Bonnie Jean Milligan
Logan, Utah: Bonnie Jean Milligan, 74, died November
2, 2004, at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah. She was
born in Smithfield, Utah December 31, 1929, the last
of ten children born to James H. and Emma Johnson
Milligan.
Her early education was received in Cache
Valley Schools. She graduated from North Cache High in
1947. She always loved school, and continued her
education at Utah State, then USAC, graduating in 1953
with a composite degree in Child Development and
Elementary Education, and a minor in music. She later
received a Masters Degree in San Francisco State
College, with a major in Early Childhood Education,
with emphasis on the teaching of reading.
She taught
one year in Riverside, California, one year at Woods
Cross School in Bountiful, and 27 years in the Salt
Lake City Schools, teaching at Indian Hills, Newman,
and Beacon Heights. She retired in 1987. She also
worked as a secretary at the Mechanical Arts and
Engineering Departments at the University, at GMAC, at
Manpower, Hillfield, and Kennecott.
Bonnie was very
talented musically, and gave piano lessons for several
years. Upon retirement from teaching she moved back to
Smithfield, where she was active in the LDS Church.
She served as a Ward Organist, and volunteered her
musical talents in playing for funerals, and
accompanying many soloists. She loved all kinds of
music.
Bonnie loved to read and write poetry, stories and
letters to her family and friends. She loved to camp,
fish, and hike in the mountains. Bonnie moved to Ogden
to help care for her brother, Ralph. After his death,
she remained there for six years, until she had a
stroke in 2003. The family would like to thank all who
gave such loving care to Bonnie, at Logan Nursing and
Rehab Center, Logan House, and Sunshine Terrace.
She is survived by one brother, R. Vincent Milligan
(Carol) of Ghent, New York. She is also survived by
sisters-in-law, Helen Milligan of Logan, and Maxine
Milligan of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by
nieces and nephews, Jim Milligan (Bonnie), Ann
Kersten, Shawnee Keith (Tom), Erin Milligan (Eileen),
Kathy Anderson (Leonard), Mickey Bennion, Cheri Burton
(Jay), Karen Milligan, Linda Cox (Larry), Christine
Hash (Steve), Valerie Burgess (Bill), Carol Milligan,
and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, brothers Merideth,
James, Cleve, Ralph, Herbert, Max, Jack, sister Janice
Moran, and nephews Larry and Gary Milligan.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on
Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary
Chapel, 34 East Center Street in Logan, Utah. Friends
may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 10:30-11:30
a.m prior to services. Interment will be at the
Richmond Cemetery.
