Robert John Mortensen
Robert (Bob) John Mortensen, beloved husband, father,
and grandfather, returned to his heavenly father on
Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at the age of 80. He was
born Aug. 14, 1924, to George and Rebecca Jacobsen
Mortensen.
Bob attended River Heights Elementary and South Cache
High School. He met his sweetheart, Luana Jensen, in
the high school band. They were married May 28, 1946,
in the Logan LDS Temple.
Bob served his country for three years in the 97th
Infantry Division in the European and Asiatic Pacific
Theatres during World War II.
He managed the family business, the Natural Ice
Company, until 1953. He graduated from USU with a
major in Building Construction and established and
operated Mortensen Building Enterprises for over 40
year. He built many beautiful custom homes and
foundations throughout Cache Valley.
Bob loved to work, and taught others the value of
hard work. He was an avid outdoorsman, gardener, and
family man.
Bob was a wonderful example and served in many
leadership positions in the LDS Church, including
counselor in two bishoprics, high counselor, bishop,
counselor in a stake presidency, and patriarch. Bob
and Luana later served together as proselyting
missionaries in Fort Worth, Texas, temple workers, and
service missionaries for the Special Needs Young
Adults at the Logan LDS Institute.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two
brothers: Walter and Emery Mortensen; two sisters:
Leora Weaver and Marie Hawkes; a son-in-law, Michael
Earl; and four grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Luana, eleven children: Craig
Mortensen, Trudy (Rod) Blossom, Brent (Margaret)
Mortensen, John (Jolene) Mortensen, and Jan (Ron)
Richins, all of Logan; Karla (James) Grant, West
Valley City; Chris (Paulette) Mortensen, Avon; Ruth
(Paul) Berntson, Nibley; Pam (Clydell) Bowen, Preston,
Idaho; Lora Lee (Eric) Rigby, Frankfurt, Germany;
Robin (Mike) Cooper, Providence; 48 grandchildren; 17
great grandchildren; a brother, Dean Mortensen, Logan;
a sister, Violet (Bud) Draper, Layton; a
brother-in-law, Karl Weaver, Albuquerque, New Mexico;
and a sister-in-law, Zella Mortensen, Logan; and many
nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 9, at the Mount Logan LDS Stake Center, 600 East
Center Street, Logan. Friends may call from 6 to 8
p.m. on Friday at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center,
and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the
Mount Logan LDS Stake Center. Graveside Ceremony with
Military Honors will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
