Chlo Olive Anderson Affleck
COLLEGE WARD, UTAH: Chlo Olive Anderson Affleck 94 of
College Ward, Utah was born Dec. 7, 1910 in Hyrum,
Utah to Hiram and Rachael Standley Anderson, passed
away peacefully late Thursday night Sept. 22, 2005.
When Chlo was four they moved to College Ward where
the farm was. She spent her youth as a farm girl
milking cows every morning. She also helped feed
animals and weed and harvest crops. Chlo had a talent
for teaching. Ways and means were provided for her to
graduate from Utah State Agricultural College in Home
Economics and Education where she earned her Teaching
Certificate.
She taught for 11 years especially
enjoying fourth and fifth grades. She served in the
North-Western States Mission. Chlo met Preston at a
Stake Leadership Meeting. She was attracted to his
high standards and his knowledge of the gospel. They
were married in the Logan Temple on July 29, 1942.
Together they raised six children and three foster
children each in turn as follows: Jim Atole, Elsie
Garfield and Pamelia Vicenti (Penny). They served a
mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Chlo served many years in several church callings
including: Primary teacher and chorister, Mutual
Improvement teacher and president, Relief Society
Theology and Spiritual Living teacher (25 years) and
Temple Officiator (14 years).
She had a bubbly personality and enjoyed reading,
memorizing poetry, gardening, playing the old organ
and working outside.
The third of 10 children, she was preceded in death by
her husband Preston C. Affleck, daughter Dixie,
siblings: Bernice Chadwick, Elgo Anderson, Fern
Anderson, and May Pehrson.
She is survived by siblings:
Irene Groll, Veda Coley, Verda Coley, Fay Brenchley,
and Ervin Anderson. Her surviving children are Vaughn
P. Affleck (Irene) of Loveland, Colorado, Lynn H.
Affleck (Rebecca) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shirlene Gemin
(Douglas) of Kenmore, Washington, Luva G. Francis
(Loren) of Nampa, Idaho and LaVern Neff (David) of
Hyde Park, Utah. 28 grandchildren, 16 great
grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild also
survived her passing.
An evening viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary
in Logan, Utah Tuesday Sept. 27th from 6-8pm. Funeral
Services will be Wednesday Sept. 28th at 12 noon at
the College Ward Chapel 2394 West 2200 South (Logan)
with a short viewing starting at 11 am. Condolences
may be sent to the family at Allen Mortuaries.
