Carrol Maughan Richards
Carrol Maughan Richards, 82, slipped away to heaven on
May 2, 2007 after cardiac arrest.
Born Sept. 20, 1924 in Grant, Idaho to Lionel Gunnell
and Leona Christiansen Maughan. Married Clyde Rich
Richards, July 18, 1946 in the Logan Temple after
meeting at a church dance in San Diego during WWII,
where she was employed in Navy Payroll.
She graduated from Rigby High and earned an
associate’s at Riverside College, Calif. She and Clyde
lived in Ithaca, New York; Athens, Greece; Newark,
Del.; Davis, Calif.; University Park, Md.; Storrs,
Conn.; and Logan, Utah. Everywhere she went, Carrol
served those around her. Two times as Relief Society
President (Collage Park, Md. and Logan 27th Ward,
Utah), Stake Sunday School Board and teacher, Primary
and Ward chorister, Temple worker in Washington, D.C.
and Logan. She worked as the Mayor’s secretary in
Newark and as the Assistant Manager of Billing at
Leland Memorial Hospital, Md. She volunteered at
Social Services in Logan. She continued to learn,
taking Spanish classes in her 70’s.
She was present for the preparation, open house and
dedication of the Washington, D.C. temple, and was
thrilled to serve lunch to the prophet. She had a
keen sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and loved
everyone. She sought out opportunities to serve.
She will be sorely missed by her husband, Clyde; son
Keith (Karen) Richards, Provo, Utah; daughter Debra
Rossi , Murray, Utah; daughter-in-law Renae (Russell)
Richards, Salt Lake, Utah; grandchildren: Russ’s
daughter Kate Richards; Keith’s children Melissa, Adam
and Eric, Debra’s children Joseph, Steven and
Jonathan. Survived by sisters Thelma Jensen
(Arlington, VA) and Nona Schwarting (Orem, Utah) and
aunt DeLon Braunagel (Logan). Preceded in death by
parents, son Russell Richards, brother Don Maughan,
sisters Helen Petereit, and Alta Maughan.
You are dearly loved and missed by many.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7 at the
Lundstrom Park 1st Ward Chapel,1260 No. 1600 East,
Logan at 11:00 am. Viewings Sunday evening from 6:00
to 8:00 pm at Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center,
Logan, Utah and prior to the services at the 1st Ward
Chapel, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will be in
the Logan City Cemetery.
