Daniel Preston Painter
Daniel Preston Painter, 60, of Hyrum, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on
Sunday, November 5, 2006 from renal (kidney) cancer.
He was born January 31, 1946 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Preston and Marion Cranston Painter. He was the
third child born into this family of eventually ten children. He grew up in South Dakota, attending the local
schools and graduated from Lead High School in Lead, South Dakota. After graduation, he served a mission for the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Anaheim, California. He returned home to continue assisting his
family on their ranch. They ranched in South Dakota and Nebraska.
While serving his mission, he met his future bride, Melinda Lee McCain. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple
on May 24, 1975. Together, they continued ranching and raising their family of six children. They moved to Hyrum in
July of 1989 and Dan became a business owner of Centennial Welding. They continued raising their family and enjoying
Cache Valley.
Dan was an active member of the LDS Church and treasured his testimony of the gospel. He was an example of love and
compassion. He cherished his family and enjoyed building his eternal relationship with his wife, children and
grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda; children: Preston William Painter, Logan, Ut; Flynn P. (Cassandra) Painter,
Schererville, In; Mariah L. (Kieth) Petersen, Rigby, Id; Lewis L. (Nicole) Painter, Nibley; Sarah B. Painter, Hyrum,
Ut; Andrew M. Painter, currently serving a mission in San Jose, California; and 5 precious grandchildren. He is also
survived by his siblings: Robert L. (Jan) Painter; Catherine E. (Richard) Dodd; Helen J. (James) Watson; Mary L.
(Rick) Jacobs; Edward G. (Rose) Painter, Ruth D. (Lee) Henrickson; Carol E. (Jerome) Erickson; and Richard J. (Clair)
Painter. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the Hyrum 5th Ward Chapel, 190 West Main.
Friends and family may call Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and
Thursday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Hyrum City.
