Dorothy H. Gilbert
Dorothy H. Gilbert, 97, died April 30, 2006 at the
Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 5, 1908 to Thomas John Hall and
Harriet Matilda Bodily in Fairview, Idaho, the eldest
of ten children. Dorothy attended grade school in
Fairview and graduated from high school in Preston,
Idaho. She married Melvin Charles Gilbert February 27,
1929 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and lived in
Lewiston, Utah until moving to Williamsburg Retirement
Center in Logan, December, 2001.
Dorothy served faithfully throughout her life in
various positions in the LDS Church. She served as a
teacher, counselor and president of the Primary;
secretary and class leader in the Young Women
organization; counselor and secretary in the ward
Relief Society and secretary in the stake Relief
Society. She served as ward organist for 27 years. She
and her husband served as officiators in the Logan
Temple and after his death she continued to serve for
more than 12 years.
Dorothy served as Judge of Election and as
Registration Agent for several years.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter; Melvin
Ray (Carolyn) Gilbert and Brice Lamar (Sharon) Gilbert
both of Lewiston, and Karla (Jack) Cottrell of
Bountiful, Utah; 11 grandchildren, 29 great
grandchildren and six great great grandchildren;
brothers Byron of Logan, Herman of Casa Grande,
Arizona, and Grant of Boise, Idaho; sisters Verna
Knudsen of Preston, Oneta Hyde and Mardene Hall of
Fairview.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin
Charles; parents; brothers Dallas, Hershel J. and
Dennis; and great grandson Bryan Reeder.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 6, 2006 at
12:00 pm in the Lewiston 3rd Ward chapel with
President Anthony Hall conducting. Friends may call at
the ward Saturday from 10:30 am until 11:45 am.
Burial will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery.
