DOYLE “DODE” REES
Colonel Doyle Rees, died on December 29, 2007, in
Logan, Utah. He was born in Benson, Utah, on
September 9, 1908, the son of Jesse T. and Florence
Tarbet Rees. He married Gladie Bailey on September 7,
1935, at Jackson, Wyoming.
Col. Rees was a career officer, retired from the U. S.
Air Force. He held many high level command and staff
positions with both the Army and the Air Force.
During his service, he received a number of high
honors, including the Bronze Star Medal and
Presidential Unit Citation with three Oak Leaf
Clusters. His military specialty was Special
Investigations, Intelligence and Counterintelligence.
One of his special assignments was the construction of
an Escape and Evasion route up the Yukon River of
Alaska from the Bering Sea to the Canadian border.
After retirement he was employed by the Central
Intelligence Agency (CIA) covering the Intermountain
area.
He graduated from Utah State University and later did
graduate study. He attended the George Washington
University Law School for three years before entering
the military service. He was a graduate of the Air
Force Special Investigation School, The Air Command
and Staff College Air University, The Nuclear Special
Weapons School and the Air Force Missile School.
He was a 32o Scottish Rite Mason, Masonic Lodge
Hawaii, a member of the Imperial Council Nobles of the
Mystic Shrine, The Arctic Circle Masonic Club of
Alaska and The Top of the World Masonic Club of Thule,
Greenland. He was also a member of the Rotary
International, Dayton, Ohio, and Logan, Utah; The
National Society Sons of the American Revolution; the
Logan Golf and Country Club; and the Utah State
University American Legion Post 12.
Col. Rees served as Chairman of both the Cache County
March of Dimes and the Cache County American Red Cross
Chapter and for many years worked as a volunteer
assisting many in the preparation of Estate Plans and
in the settlement of estates. He was a member of the
Utah State University Old Main Society and was a
recipient of the Utah State University Distinguished
Alumnus Award in 2005. He was instrumental in the
creation of the Veteran’s Memorial on the Utah State
University campus in 2003 and the Russell L. Maughan
Memorial in 2006.
His family includes his daughter and son-in-law, Julie
and Robert Rudzinski, Phoenix, Arizona; the following
grandchildren: Jon and Ellen Rudzinski, Boston,
Massachusetts; Mishelle Rudzinski, Portland, Oregon;
Amy Rudzinski and Taylor Webb, Vancouver, British
Columbia; four great-grandchildren, Isabel and
Nickodem Rees Rudzinski, Boston, Massachusetts; Bakha
Rudzinski, Portland, Oregon; and Owen Webb, Vancouver,
British Columbia; and his dear friend, Vernon Buehler.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff on the
3rd floor Medical Unit, the Intensive Care Unit and
the Transitional Care Unit of Logan Regional Hospital
for their sweet and loving care. Our gratitude also
to Hospice for their compassionate assistance.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on
Thursday, January 3, 2007, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary
with Bishop Scott Hlavaty conducting. Friends may
call prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. In
lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to
The Sunshine Terrace Foundation. Condolences and
