Elmer Anthony Hammond
Elmer Anthony Hammond, age 87, died Wednesday, March
16, 2005. He was born February 21, 1918, the son of
Clarence William and Grace Emma Matteson Hammond, in
Scotia, New York. He had one brother and two sisters
Edward, Genevieve (Jenny) and Henrietta.
He married Marion Louise Kramer on June 7, 1942. The
marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
She passed away September 8, 1986.
He was a veteran of Word War II and served in the Air
Force from June 9, 1942 to on Nov 21, 1945. He was
transferred all over the United States to various
aircraft mechanic schools during the war. After his
discharge he joined the Naval Reserve and worked at
the Scotia (New York) Naval Depot from Nov 1945 to Oct
1950. In Nov 1950 he joined the Air National Guard
Unit in Schenectady, NY and worked as an aircraft
mechanic there until his retirement in May 1976. He
moved to Logan, Utah in June 1976 and went to work as
a custodian at Utah State University until he retired
again in June 1983. In October 2001 he moved to
Bountiful, Utah.
He is survived by his three children; Creel (Judy) of
Filer, Idaho; Wayne of Bountiful, Utah; and Pamela
(Karl) LaMont of Spokane, Washington; 12 grandchildren
and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by one grandchild (Michael) and one great-grandchild
(Noah).
Military graveside services by the American Legion
will be held on Saturday March 19, 2005 at 1:00 pm in
the Logan City Cemetery. Friends may call at the
Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, 34 East Center on
Saturday from 12:00 - 12:45 pm.
The family wishes to thank the employees and residents
of the Heritage Place for their loving care and
friendship and the Avalon Care Center, Bountiful for
the gentle care at the end.
