Esther Buist Kerr
Esther Buist Kerr, 86 passed away in her home Tuesday
November 2,2004, from causes incident to age.
Esther was born March 19, 1918 in Wellsville Utah. She
was the fourth child of Alexander and Bertha Sorenson
Buist.
Esther spent her entire life in Wellsville. In her
younger years her home was in the Old Railroad Section
House, where her father was the Forman of the Union
Pacific Railroad. Many happy hours and life time friends were formed
during those years.
Esther attended the Floradell Elementary School and
the Wellsville Junior High. She graduated from South
Cache High School in 1936.
Before getting married she was employed at the
Wellsville Morning Milk Company and then at Woolworths
Store in Logan.
Esther married Lewis Smith Kerr, November 21 1938 in
the Logan LDS Temple. Where she became his partner and
right hand woman for 65 years. They were co-workers of
the Kerr Dairy Farm. She could drive tractor, haul hay
and milk cows with the best of them. She was always on
the road after parts, grain or supplies, often taking
a grandson along for company. She would then fix a
meal fit for a king and everyone was welcome. She
would not sit down until everyone was fed.
Esther was an active member of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many
positions. She was always concerned about attending
weddings, blessings and funerals. These things were
always utmost on her mind until her passing away.
Esther loved sports and played on the Morning Glory
softball team as a pitcher in her younger years, and
was an avid supporter of the Jazz in her later years
while sitting front and center in her kitchen.
Esther's hands were never idle. In her "spare" time
she would always be sewing, crocheting or baking.
Canning was her sustenance of life and she did plenty
for all. Esther is survived by her husband, daughter,
Shirley (Standley) Poulsen, Wellsville, son, Dean
(Hilary) Kerr, Wellsville and her sister, Mary Johnson
S.L.C.. Esther is also survived by seven grandsons and
fifteen great-grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her
brother and his wife Charles (Lois) Buist ,a sister
and brother-in-law Leona (Rawl ) Rice, and also a
brother-in-law, Clive Johnson.
Her pride and joy are her seven grandsons, and she was
really tickled pink when her great- grandchildren
came.
Esther was an extremely hard worker and took care of
Lewis and her home until she had a heart attack two
years ago, then fell and broke her hip. She has been
so gracious this past year and a half even though her
body and mind failed her. She never complained and
always appreciated everything that was done for her.
May God bless this wonderful lady. She will be greatly
missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday
November 5, at the Wellsville Seventh Ward, 660 South
100 West with Bishop Gary Bates conducting. Family and
friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East
Center in Logan from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, November 4
and at the church on Friday 10:30 to 11 :30 prior to

Cemetery.
Esther's family would like to express their sincere
thanks to the many family members and neighborhood
friends, to IRC Home Care and Hospice, and her Doctor
for the loving care and friendship shown to her.
