Elda Hansen Vernon
Logan, Utah: Elda Hansen Vernon died May 18, 2005 at
Sunshine Terrace. She was born July 7, 1920, in
Trenton, Utah, a daughter of Ray Sanford Hansen and
Afton Benson Hansen.
Elda attended school in Trenton
and graduated from North Cache High School. She also
attended Utah State Agricultural College for one year.
Elda married Reed F. Vernon on June 4, 1942, in the
Logan Temple. They lived in Logan except for a brief
time while Reed was in the service.
She was active in
the LDS Church throughout her life and was a member of
the Logan 3rd Ward, serving as a Relief Society
teacher and in the Primary and Relief Society
organizations. Elda’s greatest joy was her family and
enjoyed being surrounded by her loved ones.
She was a talented knitter and taught knitting
classes for many years. One of her sweaters took
Sweepstakes at the Utah State Fair. Elda was a
wonderful cook and was known for her delicious bread
and cinnamon rolls. Elda loved golf and spent many
happy summers at the Logan Golf and Country Club.
Surviving are her husband and the following children;
Rik (Katheryn) Smithfield, Janet Rands (Bob) Spokane,
Washington, Clair (JoAnn) Tooele, Richard (Brenda)
Kaysville, and Chad (Tami) Providence, 21
grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also
survived by her brothers Wallace (Provo) and Orval
(Claremont, California). She was preceded in death by
her sisters Margaret Cottle, Geraldine Reese and
Nondus Hansen.
Friends may call between 9:30 and 10:30 at the Logan
3rd Ward chapel at 250 North 400 West, Saturday May
21. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial
will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunshine
Terrace and Terrace Grove for their kind and loving
care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, contributions
may be made to the Sunshine Terrace Foundation.
