Gwen Marie Whitehead Baird
Gwen Marie Whitehead Baird, 67, of Richmond, died Monday, November 7, 2005 after battling with
pulmonary fibrosis and cancer. She was born October 19, 1938 in Preston, Idaho to Abram Clifford
and Gwendolyn Grace Herd Whitehead. She married Joseph Claine Baird December 2, 1961. They were
later sealed in the Logan LDS temple.
She loved music and generously shared her talents of playing the piano and singing with her family and
community. She sang for several years with the Wright Connection.
She was a talented homemaker and loved to cook and sew for her family. She spent many hours making special
gifts for her children and grandchildren.
Over the years, Gwen worked for various financial institutions in Cache Valley. She worked for the last
20 years as a secretary at Utah State University. She loved working with the students and always had a
genuine interest in their success.
She was a member of the LDS church and enjoyed serving in the Relief Society, Young Women and in various other
callings. She also loved to attend the temple.
She is survived by her husband, Claine; her three sisters: Shirley (Frane) Hobbs of Orem; Marilyn (Robert)
Einzinger of Logan; Joyce (Perrry) Shumway of Brigham City; her six children: Karen (Mick) Shannon of
Draper; JoAnne (Todd) Burrows of Cedar Valley; Todd (Julie) of Clearfield; Tony (Becky) of Smithfield;
Chad (Sally) of Heber City; and Mandi of Midvale, as well as 19 grandchildren. She has been a wonderful
wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, November 11, 2005 at the Richmond City Creek Ward
Chapel, 100 East 150 South, with Bishop Kim Braegger conducting. Friends and family may call Thursday
evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and Friday morning at
the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery.
