Gene Handy Larsen
COVE, UTAH: Gene Handy Larsen, 77, returned home on
December 17, 2004 in Logan, surrounded by his family.
At the age of 32 he was diagnosed with Multiple
Sclerosis and his passing marked the end of a valiant
struggle with this disease.
He was born on August 16, 1927 in Cove, Utah a son of
Jacob Guy and Edna Handy Larsen, the youngest of three
boys. He spent his entire life in Cove. He was a
farmer and rancher and put his whole heart and soul
into doing what he loved the most. His days were
filled with milking cows and cutting hay and
everything else that farm life entails. No one worked
harder or longer, yet he never complained and looked
forward to each day doing what he loved to do.
He
instilled in his children the concept of a hard days
work, the love of animals and God's beautiful world.
He married Yevonne Porter in 1958. The marriage was
later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Gene was an
Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints at the time of his death.
After their marriage, Gene and Yevonne made their home
in Cove, where they raised their three children. Gene
had a special bond with his brother Glen, who had
never married and lived with Gene and his family until
the time of his death in 1982.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and
brothers, Delmont and Glen. He is survived by his wife
Yevonne of Cove, Utah: Son Randy (Linda) Larsen of
Cove; daughter Kandi (Rick) Parker of Cove; daughter
Cindee (Curtis) Bair of Cove; 10 grandchildren and one
great-grandson.
Gene’s family wishes to express their gratitude for
the loving care he received his last 2 ½ years spent
at Sunshine Terrace, especially Bob and the dedicated
nursing staff and aides on Wing 2. We also extend a
special thanks to Lynne, Royella and Gib from Vista
Care for their kindness and compassion to Gene and his
family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec 23, 2004
at 12:00 pm in the Cove LDS Ward chapel. Friends and
family may call from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at the
Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan and at the
