Grant S. Sorensen
Logan, Utah: Grant S. Sorensen, 88, died March 6, 2007
in Logan, Utah. Grant was born February 14, 1919 in
Logan, Utah, to Elmer P. and Blodwin S. Sorensen. He
spent the first 19 years of his life on the family
farm in Howell, Utah. He graduated from Bear River
High School in Tremonton and attended two years at
Utah State Agricultural College in Logan.
He served a two and a half year Japanese LDS Mission
in Hawaii. After 18 months his sweetheart, Connie
Earl, joined him. They were married June 6, 1941 in
the Hawaiian LDS Temple. They completed this mission
together then served another two and a half year
mission. To this union was born two sons and a
daughter: Lynn (Vicki) Sorensen, Ogden, Utah; Jay
(Cecelia) Sorensen, Smithfield, Utah; and Shelley
(Gordon) Bird, Smithfield, Utah. He has the following
brothers and sisters: Ariel (Luana) Sorensen
(deceased); LaPriel (Mearl) Bair, Providence, Utah;
Lloyd (Celia) Sorensen, Malad, Idaho; and Ray (Carol)
Sorensen, Howell, Utah.
Grant was employed for over 35 years at Cache
Valley/Walker Bank and Trust Co., serving as a teller,
Vice-president and Manager.
He has been active in the LDS Church since early
youth. He has served as Bishops counselor, Bishop,
High Councilor, Stake Presidency and LDS Public
Communication Mission in Salt Lake City, and was an
officiator in the Logan LDS Temple.
After 50 and ½ years of being together, his wife
Connie Earl Sorensen died, December 24, 1991. He later
married Glenda G. Riggs, September 5, 1992 for time in
the Logan LDS Temple.
Grant has been a member of Lion’s Clubs International
(Logan Club) for 30 years. He has served as club
president, Vice Governor of District 28U and also
Governor.
Grant has 13 grandchildren and 23 great
grandchildren. He also has four step-sons: Val Dean
(Marie) Riggs, Baton Rouge, LA; Paul (Lynette) Riggs,
Wellsville, UT; Clyde (Susan) Riggs, St. George, UT
and Lyle (Becky) Riggs, Wellsville, UT. and 18 step
grandchildren and 34 step great grandchildren.
Grant and his companions have enjoyed traveling. He
has traveled in all 50 states and 35 foreign
countries. He has an abiding love and respect for his
family, friends and LDS Church.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 10, 2007
at noon at the Logan Central Stake Center, 1255 North
600 East, Logan, Utah. Friends may call at Allen-Hall
Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan on Friday
evening from 6-8 pm. and at the Church on Saturday,
from 10:30-11:30 a.m prior to services. Interment will
be in the Logan City Cemetery.
