Grayson Hyrum Jones
Grayson Hyrum Jones was born on April 15, 1922 in Tabiona, UT. He died of a sudden heart attack on May 27, 2007
at the age of 85.
Grayson was schooled in the Tabiona / Kamas UT area until the 10th grade when he took a year off to stay
home and work for the family during the great depression. He later graduated high school at Kamas High in 1941.
In 1942 he spent three or four months in Logan, UT enrolled in NYA (National Youth Association) training, studying
Blacksmithing / Welding. From 1942 to 1943 he returned to Tabiona, UT where he labored on the family sheep ranch.
In November 1943 he enlisted in the US Army during the end of WWII in Salt Lake City. He was sent to the Philippines,
serving in the Leyte and Zamboanga areas for about 3 months. The end of his military service was with the occupation
forces at Kure Naval Base near Hiroshima. He was released from the army in November of 1945. He married Loma Hansen
on May 10th 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He then spent the next 10 years sheep ranching on the Riverside
Livestock Ranch located 40 miles north of Kemmerer, WY. Later he relocated to Hyrum, UT where he spent the years
before his retirement in various forms of self-employment.
He and Loma raised 4 sons, Kevin, Tyrell, Duane and Scott. His infant daughter Lydia preceded Grayson in death.
Also preceding his death were two sisters, Alice and Trudy and one brother, Cecil. He is survived by his spouse,
Loma Hansen Jones of Hyrum, UT, two sisters: Nedra Herzog and Meada Ouzounian, two brothers: Harold and Bruce. Also
surviving are all of their sons: Kevin(Chirle) Jones of Hyrum, UT, Tyrell (Ranae) Jones of LaBarge, WY, Duane (Bonnie)
Jones of LaBarge, WY and Scott (Wendy) Jones of Smithfield, UT.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, June 1, 2007 at the Hyrum 10th ward chapel, 111 North 400 West.
Friends and family may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and
Friday morning at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.
