Howard Eugene Jorgensen
Hyrum----Howard Eugene Jorgensen, beloved husband,
father, and friend, passed away five days after his
79th birthday, on Saturday, December 11, 2004, at
Logan Regional Hospital.
Howard was born December 6, 1925 in Hyrum, Utah, to
John W. and Nannie Nielsen Jorgensen. He was the
seventh child in a family of twelve comprised of six
boys and six girls. Soon after graduation from South
Cache High School, Howard joined the Maritime Service,
serving as a Radio Officer during World War II on the
S.S. Chewawa and the S.S. Catawba Victory. As a
Merchant Marine, he circled the globe, delivering war
supplies to ports from San Francisco to Okinawa,
Manila, Singapore, Calcutta, Egypt, and other
locations, finally arriving in New York City.
Howard married his sweetheart, Beverly Joyce Brown on
August 20, 1946. The marriage was later solemnized in
the Logan LDS Temple. They had three children,
Annette, Pamela, and Randall. Howard and his brothers
were partners in the monument business for several
years. He also owned and operated a dry farm in
Pocatello Valley, Idaho. Howard later worked at
Thiokol Chemical Corporation as a Research and
Development Engineer, where he helped develop rocket
motor igniters for the space program and pioneered the
technology forth the air bags we now use in our
vehicles.
A lifelong resident of Hyrum and member of the LDS
Church, Howard served his church and community in his
own quiet way. He gladly helped his family,
neighbors, and friends with anything he could do for
them. He served as a scout leader, home teacher, and
he and Beverly were on the Old Folks Party Committee
for many years. In his younger days, Howard enjoyed
hunting, fishing and golfing. He loved to make things
with his hands, such as duck decoys, birdhouses, and
musical instruments. He was a kind and gentle person
who taught us by example daily lessons in patience,
determination, perseverance, acceptance, and much
more. He loved his family as much as they love him,
and he will be greatly missed.
Howard is survived by his wife, Beverly; children,
Annette (Carl Ray) Jensen, Pamela (Daniel) Bankhead,
Randy (Rosemarie) Jorgensen; grandchildren, Jennifer
(John) Cardis, Justin Bankhead, Curtis Bankhead, Katie
Jensen, Erik Jorgensen, Alexa Jorgensen, and Gregory
Jorgensen; brothers, Jack N. Jorgensen and Reed (Gail)
Jorgensen; sisters, Gladys (Blaine) Parker and Gloria
(Reed) Johnson. Preceding him in death are his
parents; brothers; Arthur, Leonard, and Max, and

South 200 East with Bishop Bishop Larry Egnew
Conducting.
