Hilda Ireson Sansom
Hilda Ireson Sansom 82, passed away on December 6,
2004 at the home of her daughter in Logan, Utah. Hilda
was born December 10, 1921, the second child of
Elizabeth Salome Barber and Frank Ireson. She was born
in Costessey Norwich, Norfolk, England. She attended
the Catholic Convent school in Costessey. She was an
excellent student and received a partial scholarship
to Notre Dame High School in Norwich.
As a young woman, she worked as accountant in both a
furniture and in a pharmaceutical firm. During World
War II, she served in the British ATS (Auxiliary
Territorial Service, the woman's section of the army
rank of full sergeant). She achieved the rank of full
sergeant. One of her duties was to sweep the skies
with large searchlights looking for German planes for
the British anti aircraft units to shoot down.
During the early part of the war she met her future
husband, William (Bill) Robert Sansom. They were
married and became the parents of two daughters,
Averil (Seely) and Freda (Weyerts). In March of 1948,
they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints.In June of 1948, they imigrated to the United
States and settled in Logan, Utah.
She worked in the grocery business for a number of
years as a cashier at Island Market and Safeway. She
was employed at Utah State University in the Computer
Center for over thirty-two years. She was a member of
the Business and Professional Woman's Association. She
was active in her church serving in the Primary,
Relief Society and MIA, where she and her husband,
were directors of dance, drama and road shows. Her
hobbies were knitting, crafts, and genealogy.
Her husband, Bill and two brothers, Reginald and
Charles, preceded her in death. Her two daughters and
sister, Elizabeth, and brother, Ronald, as well as
seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren
survive her.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December
13, at 11 AM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary. A viewing
will be held one hour prior to the service at the
mortuary. Burial will take place in the Logan City
Cemetery.
