Larry Allen Shoemaker
Larry Allen Shoemaker, 64, passed away suddenly at his
home Friday, February 15, 2008. He was born to Milo
and Fadie Scruggs Shoemaker on April 19, 1943 in
Albuquerque, NM.
He graduated from Robertson High School, Las Vegas, NM
in 1961. He participated in sports and holds the
record for the javelin. After growing up ranching in
the high deserts of New Mexico, he enlisted in the
Marine Corps in 1961. With a strong sense of patriotic
duty he volunteered for Vietnam and served from
November 1964 to January 1966. After serving he worked
various jobs including agricultural fieldman,
owner/operator Stieger Tractors, truck driver,
mathematics instructor.
He married Marva Keller in
California in 1964. They had one daughter, Deborah Ann
in 1965. He later married Sue Ellen Phillips on August
15, 1971 near Dixon California. They have one son,
James Kyle and twin daughters Katy Louise and Kayla
Marie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milo
and Fadie Shoemaker, his stepfather, Jim Cox, his
sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Roy Stevenson,
Voni and Fred Voss, his first wife, Marva, many aunts
and uncles and several nieces and nephews.
He is
survived by his wife of 31 years, Sue Ellen, his
children, Debbie (Rick) Hillier of Jerome, 10, Kyle,
Katy, and Kayla Shoemaker of Smithfield Utah, and
Aunts Jean Sevier and Nora Runyon of New Mexico.
Larry loved spending time with family and friends. He
loved meeting new people and always made everyone feel
welcome, comfortable and well fed. He loved having
missionaries in his home and always made sure they
were taken care of. He had a special love for
Smithfield and enjoyed working at the livestock
auction. He was a member of the American Legion Honor
Guard and served at many community functions honoring
the patriots of our community.
He loved the Utah
mountains and would often be found riding his ATV
through the canyons or driving his truck with his
golden retrievers. He was a man with a generous and
loving heart who loved his family and friends
unconditionally. He will be missed by all who were
blessed to know him and loved him. Larry, we love you
and we will miss you. Services to be held Monday
February 18, 2008 at noon at the Smithfield 19th Ward
LDS Church located at 640 N 200 E Smithfield.
Interment will be at the family cemetery in Watrous,
NM.
