Lydia Pauline Springer Erwin
Lydia Pauline Erwin passed away August 25, 2004, in
Logan, Utah, at the age of 97.
Pauline was born July 29, 1907, in Midway, Utah, to
Lydia Rosetta Bigler and Jeremiah Robey
Springer, the second of six children. She attended
school in Midway, the Wasatch Academy in
Mt. Pleasant, and Utah State University.
Pauline married Joseph Bray Erwin August 29, 1928. Joe
was a talented musician and they
moved to California where he formed a western band
that played at Columbia Studios where they
became friends with many Hollywood personalities. In
the mid-forties they purchased Luke's Hot
Pots in Midway, Utah. They were visited by many of
their movie industry friends including Roy
Rogers and Dale Evans, The Riders of the Purple Sage,
Charlie Starrett, Virginia Mayo, and
Eugene Jackson (an original" Little Rascal".) Pauline
and Joe were instrumental in the formation
of the Midway Boosters Club which created Swiss Days.
They later returned to California where
Joe died in 1961. In 1974 Pauline retired and moved to
Logan to live near her sister Floris Olsen
Henderson and niece, Kathie (Tony) Wegener and her
family.
Pauline loved learning. Her books were her greatest
earthly treasure. She was a voracious reader
and continually took classes and attended lectures in
the Los Angeles area. She loved to travel
and toured Mexico, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
Pauline loved people and they loved
her. She was a "Favorite Aunt" and will be missed by
her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jay
(Fanny) Springer, Beryl (Tura) Springer, and
Frank (Louise) Springer and two sisters, Amy (George)
Whitley and Floris (Lee) Henderson.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Louise Springer,
and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 28,
2004, at 1:00 PM at the Olpin-Hoopes Funeral
Home, 288 North Main Street, Heber City, Utah where
friends may call one hour prior to
services. Burial will be in the Midway City Cemetery.
