Michael R. Bertoch
St. George, Utah: Michael R. Bertoch, 70, passed
away suddenly on March 24, 2005 after a short stay at
the Legacy Assisted Living Center in St. George, Utah.
He had been living valiantly with Alzheimers Disease
for the past 10 years.
He was born on December 16, 1934 in Ely, Nevada, to
Vivian H. And Gladys Winzeler Bertoch. He married
Janet Brownell on March 25, 1955, they were later
divorced. He received his B.S., as well as his M.S.
at Idaho State University, and received his Doctrate
at Boston University in 1967. He taught Psychology at
Utah State University for 29 years and was the
Department Head of Psychology for 9 of those years.
He also had a part time practice in psychotherapy.
He married Ann Weiser Jones in Pocatello, Idaho on
December 27, 1974.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, in which he served as a bishop,
high counselor, gospel doctrine teacher and a nursery
teacher. He and his wife Ann served a mission from
1996 to 1997 in the Texas Dallas Mission.
He was a member of the Lion’s Club and the Utah
Psychological Association (Past President). He served
his country in the Army from 1958 to 1960 in Georgia
and one year in Korea. He enjoyed fishing and
golfing, but his greatest love was his family and
grandchildren.
He has resided in Pocatello, ID; Boston, MA; Logan,
UT; and most recently in St. George, UT.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Bertoch ,
one son, Michael James (Valerie) Bertoch of Idaho
Falls, Idaho; two daughters, Debra Lynn (Doug) Watts
of Hurricane, Utah and Suzan Kay Ker of Tooele, Utah;
also a step-son, Mark (Jerilee) Jones of Bountiful,
Utah; and two step-daughters, Leslie (Randy) Swartwood
of Vernon Hills, Illinois and Ondulyn Jones of Salt
Lake City, Utah. Her is also survived by 15
grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers,
Jack (Barbara) Bertoch of Cedar City, Utah, and Steve
(Sandy) Bertoch of Salem, Oregon, and one sister,
JoAnne (Ted) Ries of Pocatello, Idaho. He was
preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday,
March 29, 2005 at the River Heights 2nd Ward Chapel.
A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34
East Center in Logan, on Monday, March 28 from 6:00 to
8:00 PM and prior to services on Tuesday from 11:30 AM
to 12:30 PM. Interment will be in the Providence
Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
