Michael Dean Shuck
Michael Dean Shuck, beloved son, brother and grandson,
was unexpectedly called home to his Heavenly Father on
Friday, 7 March, 2008 in Seattle, Washington. Michael
died of heart failure. He was 41.
Michael was born on June 18, 1966 at Griffiths Air
Force Base, Rome, New York to Lieutenant Robert D.
Shuck and Marilynn D. Platt. His father was a regular
air force officer, and the family moved from base to
base during Michael’s childhood. He spent parts of his
growing years in Wellsville, Utah; Waipahu, Hawaii;
Biloxi, Mississippi; O’Fallon, Illinois; Yakota Air
Force Base, Japan and Tachikawa Air Force Base, Japan.
The family settled in San Jose, California, and
Michael graduated from Gunderson High School in San
Jose. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.
Michael had a great love of music and was an
accomplished musician. While in Japan, he studied the
piano under a graduate of the Juilliard School of
Music. He had a beautiful baritone voice and spent
many years singing with the San Jose L.D.S. 10th Ward
choir, where he also served as the organist for the
Primary and Sunday school programs.
Michael spent most of his adult life serving his
fellow man, providing nursing care and compassionate
service to emotionally challenged and terminally ill
private patients. He was active in community social
programs directed toward bettering the quality of life
for those less fortunate than he was. Generous to a
fault with his resources, his time, his friendship,
and his help, he maintained a courageous heart as he
lived his life without flinching. A loving brother, a
devoted son and a compassionate friend, he will be
greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Major Robert D. Shuck,
USAF Ret., of Ashland, Oregon, and Marilynn D. Platt
of Fremont, California, by his two brothers, Richard
L. Shuck of Half Moon Bay, California and David W.
Shuck of Denver Colorado, his step-sister, Julia C. K.
Platt of Irvine, California, his step-father, George
A. Platt of Fremont, California, and by his
grandmother, Shirley B. Darley of Wellsville, Utah.
He
was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lynn Maughn
Darley of Wellsville, Utah.
Graveside services will be held at the Wellsville
Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 15, 2008.
Condolences may be sent to the family at
Allen Mortuaries, and flowers may be sent to
the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, Utah.
