Nellie Gray (Gaye) Hanson
PROVIDENCE, UTAH: Nellie Gray (Gaye) Hanson, 86, died
December 27, 2007, after a short illness. She was born
November 30, 1921 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to
Sam Gray and Nellie Welch Hardister. She married Alvin
M. Hanson at Pensacola Navel Air Base November 25,
1944, and was sealed in the Logan Temple June 20,
1950.
She graduated from Hanes High School and attended
Draughns Business College in Winston-Salem. She was
employed by the Federal General Accounting Office as a
secretary in Washington D.C. Here she became
acquainted with her future husband Alvin M. Hanson, a
Naval Officer stationed in the Washington vicinity.
She married him after he was transferred to Pensacola,
Florida. She and her husband made moves though out
the county related to his military service, University
attendance, and employment as a geologist. These
included Madison, Wisconsin, Butte, Montana,
Worland, Wyoming, Billings, Montana, Denver,
Colorado, Covington, Louisiana, Evergreen, Colorado
and finally to Providence in beautiful Cache Valley.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, Gary
of Providence, Michael of Amarillo, Texas and Long
Island, N. Y, Philip of Tallahassee, Florida, nine
grandchildren, and thirteen greatgrandchildren, her
brother Sam Hardister and her sister Peggy Bradford of
Winston Salem, North Carolina.
She was preceded in
death by her brother William Hardister of Florida.
The last three years of her life she was
crippled and restricted to life in a wheelchair.
Despite this she always had a smile for friends as
well as strangers.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday,
January 2, 2008 at the Providence 4th Ward Chapel at
l2:00 pm, after the viewing at l0:30 to 11:30 am.
Following the funeral service the interment will take
place at the Providence Cemetery.
The family is grateful to the Alpine
Homecare and Hospice for the loving care the staff
provided. They provided the needed services with the
love and kindness needed to help her both physically and
mentally.
