Olga Berg Brown
LOGAN, UTAH: Olga Berg Brown, 91, passed away
peacefully on January 1, 2005 in her daughter’s home
in Wellsville, Utah. She was born in Springfield,
Idaho, on November 26, 1913, to Henry H. and Erma W.
Berg where she was raised and attended school. She
had three sisters and one brother. She told many
stories of the good times she had growing up in
Springfield. She graduated from high school in
Blackfoot, Idaho, and earned a secretarial degree from
the University of Idaho Southern Branch at Pocatello.
She married Homer Glenn Cooper on November 2,
1934, in Butte, Montana. Their marriage was
solemnized in the Logan temple. They were later
divorced. At that time she and her daughter were
living in Seattle, Washington. She completed her
bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate. She taught
business education in Shelley, Idaho for one year and
in Aberdeen, Idaho for 9. She moved to Salt Lake City
in 1958 where she taught at South High and earned a
master’s degree at the University of Utah.
In 1965 she married George W. Brown and moved to
Ogden, Utah. They enjoyed their time together. She
nursed him until his death in 1979. She taught
business education at Weber State until she retired in
1979 and received the Emeritus ranking. There she
authored several text/workbooks that allowed students
to progress at their own pace. She continued living in
Ogden, participating in the Weber State Emeritus
Association, Sons of Norway, League of Women Voters,
and literary and bridge groups. She moved to her
daughter’s home in Wellsville in April, 2003.
Through all these activities Olga gathered many
dear friends whose friendships she cherished. She saw
her role in life as one of caring for and helping
others—be it family, friends, or acquaintances. Her
generosity was noteworthy. She loved to read and
thought it important to be well informed. She
demanded of herself a high level of perfection. She
was an example to all. She taught and supported her
church in many capacities. She looked forward to more
time with her family after death.
Olga is survived by one daughter, Glenna
(Richard) Boyce; two stepsons, D. Kent (Jeanne) Brown,
and George Woodrow Brown; 2 granddaughters, Ann Jensen
and Shauna Saarelainen; and four grandsons, Chris,
Jeff, Andy, and Brad Boyce; and 16
great-grandchildren (with one on the way). She
welcomed and cherished each one! She is also survived
by two sisters, Carma Skidmore and Marie Thurston, a
cousin Marta Robertson, and many loving nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband,
parents, a sister Naomi, a brother Halvor, and a
stepson Larry.
