ORPHA MOHR
Orpha Lucille Buist Mohr, 93, of Providence, Utah
passed away peacefully on March 7, 2007 in Logan,
Utah. Orpha was born on February 2, 1914 in Mendon,
Utah to William and Marilla Buist. She was the second
of eight children; three sisters and four brothers.
Orpha was raised and educated in Mendon and graduated
from South Cache High School. She married La Var A.
Mohr on December 24, 1938 in Preston, Idaho. Their
marriage was later sealed in the Logan Temple. They
spent 46 years together in Providence until La Var' s
passing on February 22, 1984. Two children were born
to this union, Harvey La Var Mohr and Janeal Mohr
Curtis. Orpha had a stepdaughter Doreen Leonhardt
Blauer.
Orpha attended beauty college and was a hair dresser
for many years. Together with her husband they ran and
operated a fruit farm in Providence. She worked in the
lunch program at Providence Elementary for many years.
Orpha was known for her hard work ethic, her wonderful
cooking, love of chocolate and witty sense of humor.
She loved reading books- especially love stories,
crocheting, working in her beautiful flower garden,
and watching the Utah Jazz. She was kind and caring
always putting other needs before her own. Everyone
who met her fell in love with her endearing
personality.
Orpha cherished and loved the close relationship she
had with her children; Jan was her closest and dearest
friend. They enjoyed spending time together,
especially their many world travels. She was a loving
and patient grandmother. She always supported her
grandchildren in all their activities and never missed
an event.
She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah
Pioneers, The Red Hat Society, and the Chere Octa
Club, where she made many life long friends.
Orpha was a member of the LDS Church and served in
several positions throughout her life and she enjoyed
many years of temple work. She was a member of the
Providence 12th Ward at the time of her passing.
Orpha is survived by her son Harvey (Chrystal) Mohr of
Providence, Utah, a son-in-law Steven Curtis of
Providence, Utah, 7 grandchildren, 5
step-grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 17
step-great grandchildren, 4 step-great great
grandchildren, one sister Thelma Maughan of Roy, Utah,
and one brother LaVern Buist of Colusa, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband La Var Mohr;
her daughter Janeal Curtis; her parents; two brothers
La VeIl Buist and Leon Buist; three sisters Juanita
Buist, Gladys Wright and Viola Larsen; and a great
granddaughter Kirstyn DiAnn Curtis.
Funeral services for Orpha will be on Monday, March
12th, at noon, at the Providence 12th Ward LDS
Chapel. Viewings will be held on Sunday, March 11th
from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in
Logan, and at the 12th Ward LDS Church at 309 South
Main Providence on Monday from 10:30 to 11 :30 am
prior to services . Burial will be at the Providence
City Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of Legacy
House Assisted Living and Logan Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center for the tender and compassionate
love they showed for Orpha.
