Ruth A. Napp
Paradise, Utah; Ruth A. Napp, 80, passed away on
Monday, October18, 2004. She had suffered a massive
stroke on Thursday, October 14, and it was her wish to
spend her last days in her own home with her cats, who
never left her side.
She was born on July 17, 1924 to Martha Louise
Degenring Hoy and William Gustav Hoy in Brooklyn, New
York. She attended Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn
and graduated in 1942 specializing in secretarial
skills.
On July 15, 1944, she married Marine Sgt. James J.
Napp in Brooklyn, New York. They traveled while
stationed many places. When her two children became
school age she did what few women did in the 1940's,
she supported and raised her children alone while her
husband was away keeping America Safe.
In West Milford, N.J., she used her secretarial
skills and began working for the township. When she
retired 25 years later, she was the Deputy Township
Clerk.
Between a full time job and raising two children, she
found time to be active in the Eastern Star (Masonic
Order) and rose to Ruling Matron and Queen of
Daughters of the Nile (Shriners Order).
In 1994 she and her husband retired to Florida until
2000, when health problems made it necessary to move
to Paradise, Utah to be close to her daughter. It
didn’t take long for “Grandma” to be accepted and
“adopted” by many special families in the town.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother,
and her husband. She is survived by her son, Richard
(Kathy) Napp of Sussex, New Jersey and her daughter,
Ruth (Richard) Rallison of Paradise, Utah. She is
also survived by her six grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren and the many wonderful and special
people in this valley that touched her life.
A viewing will be held on Thursday evening, October
21, 2004 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Allen-Hall
Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. She will be
buried next to her husband on Friday, October 22, 2004
at the Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park in Bluffdale,
Utah.
