Russell S. Poppleton
Russell Squires Poppleton passed away Monday, 21 Apr.
2008 at the Logan Regional Hospital at the age of 86.
He was born 8 March 1922 in Wellsville, Ut. to Joseph
W. and Flora Christina Squires Poppleton.
He grew up
in Wellsville and went to school in Wellsville and
South Cache High. He joined the Army Signal Corp in
World War 2. After his Signal Corp schooling he was
sent to New Guinea for 2 years. When World War 2 ended
he returned and married Anna Rae Allen on 22 Feb 1946
in the Logan LDS Temple. Following their marriage they
settled in Sacramento, CA. where most of their 7
children were born.
They raised 5 boys and 2 girls.

Plains, MT; Joseph (Tonya), Idaho Falls, ID; Robert
(Jenny), Carlsbad, CA.; Dale (Connie), Eldorado, CA.;
Lorraine (John) Cherry, Eldorado Hills, CA.; John
(Rebecca), Wellsville, UT. They have been blessed with
35 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
In 1988,
after retiring as a Commercial Electrician in
Sacramento, CA, Russell and Anna purchased the old
home in Wellsville where he was raised. In 1993, after
spending three years remodeling the old house he and
his wife served an LDS mission to the Australia Sydney
North Mission. Russell sincerely loved his fellowman
and served quietly, but devotedly, in many church
callings. He loved the old Wellsville Tabernacle which
his ancestors helped to build and was instrumental in
the restoration efforts to save it.
He had a love for good music and sang in many choirs.
A big highlight in his life was a choir trip to Russia
with Dr. Willard Kesling and the Northern Utah Choral
Society in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, his children, and all his
grandchildren with the exception of one baby
granddaughter, and his youngest sister Leora
Marcheschi, Salt Lake City, UT. He was preceded in
death by his parents, brothers; Allan, Gib and Reese;
sisters; Valine and Cleone. He loved his family and
many friends. He was Logan Deseret Industries best
customer for many years. He will be remembered by many
for his dry sense of humor.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday,
Apr 26 in the Wellsville 4th Ward Chapel, 195 S.
Center in Wellsville. A viewing will be held from 6 to
8 pm Friday, Apr 25 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East
Center Street in Logan and at the church on Saturday
from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment
will be in the Wellsville Cemetery.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the doctors and
many sweet nurses that tried so hard to make him
comfortable this past year.
