Sandra Lyn Godfrey Wallentine
Sandra Lyn Godfrey Wallentine passed away, Monday
April 17, 2006 at the Logan Regional Hospital after a
dignified and hard fought battle with breast cancer.
Sandy was born April 2, 1962 in Lynwood, California to
the late Theron Jay Godfrey and Judy Pond Godfrey.
Sandy became an older sister to L.J. shortly after
moving back to Utah.
Sandy met her husband, Scott L. Wallentine, when he
moved in across the street while the two were in sixth
grade. They became friends and stayed close through
their childhoods. Their romance grew through numerous
letters while she attended BYU, and he served and LDS
mission. Shortly after Scott returned, they were
married June 30, 1983 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Sandy attended BYU on a full ride scholarship, later
transferring to USU and graduating Magna Cum Laude
with a B.S. degree in Elementary Ed. She later
continued her education while being a full-time wife,
mother, teacher, and church leader; receiving her M.S.
degree from USU, and also her Administrative degree in
Elementary Ed.
July 30, 1986 marked the first of four "best days of
her life" as she liked to say, when Laci Jae was born.
Theron Cade followed on May 18, 1989. Rebekka Lyn, was
also born July 30, 1992; and last but certainly not
least, Allie Elizabeth on November 19, 1997. She was
an amazing mother and always put her kids at number
one. Her family was most important, and she often
acknowledged them as her reason to keep fighting.
Nevertheless, her "other kids" always kept a special
place in her heart. Sandy taught fourth and fifth
grades at North Park and Greenville Elementary for 21
years, making hundreds of student and faculty
friendships along the way. Sandy had a gift of
touching all students and helping each feel just as
important as the next. Her students and past students
loved being in her class. They frequently came back to
visit or write her loving cards. She treasured each
one, and regularly mentioned the strength she received
from all of them. Sandy was passionate about teaching
and loved every moment.
In addition to being a mother and teacher, Sandy was a
faithful member of the LDS church. Her gift of
teaching was evident whether it was by precept or
example as she enjoyed and fulfilled her callings. She
shared her gift in the Primary, Sunday School, Young
Women, Relief Society, and also as Stake Young Women’s
President.
Sandy shared her fight and is survived by her husband
Scott, and their four children, Laci (Nate) Buttars,
Cade, Bekka, and Allie. Her children will never forget
the dignified strength and courage their mom showed
throughout her fight. She is also survived by her
mother, Judy (Godfrey) Hill and Joe Hill of Kaysville,
Utah. Brother, L.J. (Lisa) Godfrey of Smithfield, and
step-brother Brent (Dixie) Hill of Kaysville. She was
preceded in death by her father, Theron Godfrey, who
was there to greet her when her earthly life came to
an end. Also fighting with Sandy were many close
friends, faculty members, and neighbors whom she loved
dearly.
The family would like to express deep appreciation and
sincere gratitude to those who worked so hard for
Sandy through her battle. Including, Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob
and his wonderful staff at the Logan Cancer Institute,
and Dr. Saundra Buys at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
In addition they would like to express their
appreciation to the nursing and ancillary staff who
provided care and compassion to Sandy during her stays
at the Logan Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday
April 22, 2006 at the North Logan Green Canyon Stake
Center, 1850 North 400 East in North Logan, with
Bishop William Dalebout conducting. A viewing will
also be held at the Stake Center from 6 to 9 p.m. on
Friday, April 21, and from 10 to 11 :30 a.m. prior to
the services on Saturday. Arrangements are under the
direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences may be
sent to the family at Allen Mortuaries.
