LOGAN, UTAH: Sidney Alonzo Smith, 82, died peacefully on December 20, 2005, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Logan. Utah, on April 15, 1923, to Alonzo Jacob Smith and Beatrice Quinney Smith. He has one sister, Kathleen Rabb of Logan.

Sid married Kathryn Jane Hess on January 17, 1947. Their marriage was later solomnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Kathryn passed away in May 1990. He was the proud father of four daughters: Marsha (Stuart) Howell of Hyde Park, Kris (Paul) Scrowther and Lorie (Bill) Emmett of Smithfield, and Vicki (Greg) Nielson of North Logan.

On July 12, 1991, he married LaWana Fronk and then moved to Tremonton, Utah. His step children are Linda (Gerald) Earl of Tremonton, Jim (Bonnie) Fronk and Patty (David) Hess of Ogden, and Earl (Julie) Fronk of Bountiful. Together they have 37 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Sidney graduated from Logan High School. At age 19 he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country honorably in World War II. After having been trained as part of a tank destroyer division, he was shipped to France and served in Patton's Third Army as its infantry divisions moved across Germany.

He worked his whole life in the auto parts business. He owned and operated Logan Auto Parts for twenty years with his partner Luther Yeates.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Bishop, Seventy, High Councilman, teacher, Stake missionary, full-time missionary with LaWana in Tampa, Florida, and Temple officiator. He gained a deep love for temple work and the blessings of eternal families while serving in the Logan Temple.

He is survived by his wife LaWana, his four daughters, four step-children, 37 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and his sister.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, December 27 at the Logan Third Ward Chapel, 250 North 400 West, Logan. The family will greet friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Roger's and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and from 10 to 11:45 am on Tuesday at the church prior to services.
