Wayne Garrett
LOGAN, UTAH: Wayne Garrett, 92, of Logan, died Sunday,
August 21, 2005 in Logan. Wayne was born August 14,
1913 in Garland, Box Elder, Utah, a son of John W.
Garrett and Jessie Jones Garrett. He married Dorothy
Fox on July 11, 1943 at Walla Walla Air Force Base, Washington. The marriage was
later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
Dorothy passed away on September 17, 1989.
Wayne was a graduate of Bear River High School and
graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Business Administration.
He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a member of Old Main Society.
He was a High Priest in the Logan LDS 10th ward. He is
a veteran of World War II serving in the European theater, and also in the
Pacific theater.
He is a former member of the Logan Lions Club. He was
a charter member of Logan Lodge #1453, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
He was life member of the Old time Athletes Association, Utah chapter and was a member of
the American Legion, Utah State University
He served two terms as Exalted Ruler of Logan Lodge
No. 1453, B.P.O.E. In 1960 - 61.
He was appointed District Deputy for the State of
Utah. He served five years on the Board of Trustees for the Utah State Elks Association, the last
as Chairman. He was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in Logan Lodge in 1963.
He served for many years as the Institutional
Representative for Boy Scout Troop #1, which had been sponsored during that period by the
Elks Lodge and later by the Lions Club. He
served on the Neighborhood Council for Logan City.
Following his graduation from Utah State University,
he was employed in Salt Lake City by General Electric Supply Corporation. In 1941 he
entered the Military Service and at the conclusion of
the war, he returned to Logan and was employed again
by Cache Valley Electric Company.
He retired in 1978 where he had been office Manager
and Corporate Secretary. He enjoyed all sports, especially Baseball. He had
been active in the Big Blue Club since its inception.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister
Edna, a brother Ferris, and his wife Dorothy.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Kipp, Murray,
Utah; a son Craig W. Garrett, Pocatello, Idaho; two grandsons, Jay C. Herstad
(Linda) Salt Lake City; Jeffery C. Garrett, Logan, Utah and three great-granddaughters, McKenzee,
Lexis, and Baylee.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make a
memorial gift in his name to Sunshine Terrace Foundation, 225 North Main Street, Logan, Utah
84321.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at noon in
the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street.
Friends and family may call at the mortuary Wednesday
evening from 6-8 pm and one hour prior to services.
There will be a military tribute at the Logan City
Cemetery following services. Condolences may be sent
to the family at Allen Mortuaries.
