William Newell Hopkins
William Newell Hopkins, our beloved husband, father,
grandfather and great grandfather, passed away
peacefully on October 27 ,2006, due to complications
from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Bill was born Oct. 6, 1929 in Los Angeles, California
and was the only child of William Merle Hopkins and
Mary Lucille Johnson. He married his sweetheart Mary
Ann Rauner on May 14, 1952 in Los Angeles. Three years
later they found the gospel and were sealed for time
and all eternity in the St. George Temple on Oct. 25,
1955. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding
anniversary.
After finishing high school in Los Angeles Bill joined
the Air Force. He was an armament expert working onjet
aircraft. He served in the Korean War as a Staff
Sergeant. He served his country well and was Honorably
Discharged as a Tech Sergeant on June 1, 1957. His
love of flying continued, obtaining his private pilots
license.
Bill and Mary Ann spent their life together in
California, Nevada and then chose to retire from their
Insurance/Brokerage business and settled in Utah,
where they have lived for the past 18 years.
Bill has faithfully served in the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints for the past 52 years.
He has fulfilled many callings, including Bishop,
counselor in the Stake Presidency, temple worker and
was set apart to be a Temple Sealer in 1984, where he
served in the Oakland and Provo Temples. He and his
sweetheart fulfilled two missions to the island of
Malta, in the Mediterranean.
Bill and Mary Ann were blessed with five children,
thirteen grandchildren and soon to be 2 great
grandchildren,. Bill is survived by his loving wife
MaryAnn, daughter Cheryl Cavalier, and her son Wyatt,
daughter Linda Fisher, her husband Curtis and their
two children, Nicholas and Lauren, son Michael
Hopkins, his wife Cindy and their three daughters
Niki, Madisonne and Joely, daughter Susan, her husband
Daniel and their six daughters Malori Belliston, her
husband Steve and their daughter Shelby with a son on
the way, Demi, Kinley, Berkleigh, Natalie and Ashley,
daughter Connie Papa, her husband Robert and their son
Wyatt Keith,and missionary daughter, Peggy Grnsendorf.
Bill has a great love for his family and the gospel.
He was a friend to all, serving others and giving of
himself freely. He led a valiant life and we'll all
miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Friday,
November 3, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Hyde Park Stake
Center, 535 East 200 South in Hyde Park. A viewing
will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM
at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan,
and prior to services at the Stake Center from 9:30 to
10:45 AM. Interment will be in the Hyde Park
Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
Allen Mortuaries.
