Wayne Burton Ringer, 78, son of Lillian Burton and
Frank Ringer, was born July 1, 1926 in San Francisco,

Logan, Utah.
Wayne graduated from high school in
Kaysville, Utah. He joined the Air Force in 1944 and
was released ten months later when the war ended.
While in the service he observed that the men who
were officers had a good education, and he vowed that
when he got out of the service he was going to school
so he could be a leader.
He moved to Logan and
attended Utah State University and through hard work
finished his bachelors degree in three years. He
graduated in industrial arts in 1950. He made honor
roll and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He met Joyce
Merrill in his senior year in a chemistry Class. They
were married June 1, 1950, and have been “mixing it
up” ever since. They moved to Ogden where he taught
industrial arts at Walquist Junior High for seven
years. He then moved to the Utah State University
Extension Service as an Agricultural Engineer. While
at USU he continued his education getting his, masters
degree in 1963.
In 1964 the family moved to Chicago
for 2 years while Wayne finished his doctorate’s degree
in Adult Education. He continued working at USU until
he retired in 1990. He was successful in obtaining
over $4 million from the Kellogg Foundation to build
the USU Continuing Education Center. He drew up the
specifications for the Conference Center, University
Inn and Parking Terrace on Campus. Wayne also received
the Governors award for excellence in energy
innovation for the State of Utah in 1984.
During this
time in his life Wayne and Joyce raised four
children. Alan (Valerie) Ringer of River Heights, Dr.
Mont (Melinda) Ringer of Las Vegas, Nev., Sherry (Dr.
David) Murray of Logan, and Shauna (Rick) Doerr of St
George, Utah. They have 19 grandchildren and 5 great
grand children.
Wayne always set a good example of
service in the church and community. He served as a
City Councilman in River Heights City for four years.
He was also a Bishop of the River Heights II Ward,
served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Gospel
Doctrine Teacher, Priests Advisor in the Aaronic
Priesthood, High Councilor, and Finance Clerk. Wayne
and Joyce served a temple mission in the Dallas
Temple, and served as officiators in the Logan Temple.
Wayne built three homes throughout his life, He did
all the work, except for laying the brick. He was
always tinkering around in his shop and over the years
has built many family heirlooms, furniture and
clocks. We will ever be grateful for his encouragement
to continually work to better ourselves in what ever
we undertake.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 54
years, one sister Aldene (Wayne) Fisher, all of his
children and all but one of his grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, one sister Donna
