Warren E. Vann, respected and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away March 10, 2005, surrounded by his family. He was 81.

Mr. Vann moved to Utah after retiring in 1971 and loved traveling across the country, barbequing, playing golf, reading The Wall Street Journal and spending time with his grandchildren.

Born Nov. 2, 1923, Mr. Vann grew up watching the Cubs, eating Polish sausages and working as a caddy in Chicago-area golf courses.

During World War II, Mr. Vann served as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was on active duty in the European Theater. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. While stationed in Salt Lake City in 1942, he met his lovely wife-to-be, Leatrice Mary Oldham, at an orange juice stand. After years of correspondence, the pair wed on Sept. 10, 1945, in Logan, Utah.

In 1954, Mr. Vann joined Motors Insurance Corporation, a division of General Motors. He worked as a staff adjuster in Utah and California, a claims supervisor in Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri and a claims manager in Tennessee. One of MIC's original truck adjusters, Mr. Vann was proud to have successfully handled heavy duty losses in 23 states, including Alaska. He served as an instructor at six adjuster schools and truck adjuster sessions at General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich.

His children include Larry Vann (Claudia Van Buren), Linda Miller (Maxwell Miller) and Warren Vann Jr. (Nancy Osbahr). Grandchildren include Tony Vann (Kiki Vann), Marilee Miller (Adam Goldstein), Maxwell Alan Miller, Andrew Vann and Shannon Vann. His sister is Helen Prinos (John Prinos).

Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, March 14, in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 E. Center St., Logan. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion.
