Bertha B. Bateman 1919 - 2003 LOGAN - Bertha Bergquist
Bateman, 84, died
Friday, November 28, 2003 from complications of
Alzheimer's.
She was born
September 21, 1919, in River Heights, Utah to Charles
L. and Selma Christina Olson Bergquist. She graduated
from Preston High School and was selected as the
Franklin County Rodeo Queen in 1938. She married John
Leland "Lee" Bateman in the Logan Temple on December
12, 1941. She moved to San Francisco, CA with her
husband in 1941where they lived until 1945 when they
moved to River Heights.
She worked for the Telephone Company
for 33 years while at the same time enjoyed being
mother to her three children. Bertha was an active
member of the River Heights Wards of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many church callings
during her life including the
one she enjoyed the most as a Temple worker in the
Logan Temple.
She enjoyed
traveling, gardening and serving the community. She
worked with the Telephone
pioneers for many years assisting in their service
projects that benefitted many
individuals in the intermountain area.
Surviving are her husband and companion of 62 years,
Lee, two sons, Val J (Bonnie) Bateman, Holladay, Utah;
Ted L Bateman, Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Ann
Day, Sandy, Utah; 11 grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother, Charles Allen
Bergquist, Preston, Idaho. She was preceded in death
by her sister Anna P. Hurst.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday,
December 1, 2003 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, Chapel,
34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah. Friends and
family may call at the mortuary on Monday prior to the
services from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Interment, Providence
Cemetery.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to the
staff of Sunshine Terrace who provided such loving
care to Bertha during her stay.
