Beloved Wife & Mother

Elva Elwood, 88, left her earthly abode for her Heavenly home on November 14, 2003, surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Lewiston, Utah.

Elva was born on 20 January 1915 in Mink Creek, Idaho, the second child of Julius and Della Jepsen. She married her lifelong friend and eternal companion, Lloyd H. Elwood, on June 4, 1937, in the Logan Temple. They have been married 66 years, and have lived their entire married life on a farm in Lewiston, Utah.

Elva loved sharing her time and talents with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook, and took pleasure in sharing her special treats with others. She and her husband always grew a bounteous garden, and they loved sharing their produce with everyone. Each of her children and grandchildren has a quilt and afghan handmade by her, so they will always be able to wrap up in the warmth of her love. She and her husband spent many pleasurable hours dancing and treasured their many friendships with square dancers.

Elva was active in the LDS Church, serving as a Primary teacher, Stake Primary Board member, counselor in the YWMIA, Relief Society teacher, Relief Society counselor, drama and dance director, and a member of the Singing Mothers. However, the calling she and her husband enjoyed most of all was serving as Temple Workers for 20 years. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and had a firm testimony of the Gospel.

Elva exemplified the commandment to "Honor thy father and thy mother," as she honored both her and Lloyd’s parents. She lived close to her in-laws and helped care for them for many years.

Elva was proceeded in death by her parents, one son, Gale Elwood, two grandchildren, Bradley Hall and Carrie Sue Hall, and two brothers, Fremon and Lester Jepsen. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd, three children: Carlos (Maureen) Elwood, Diane (Evan) Hall, and Kelly (Susan) Elwood, one daughter-in-law, Julie Hunsaker, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grand-children, three sisters: Ella (Grant) Jones, Valora Parry, Darlene (John) King, and one sister-in-law, Ada Jepsen.

Elva was a gentle, loving person and will be missed dearly by her family. She will be laid to rest at the Fairview, Idaho Cemetery.

Funeral services, conducted by Bishop Brooks Tarbet, will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the Lewiston 1st/2nd Ward Chapel, 1600 West Center St., Lewiston, Utah. The family will meet with friends and relatives on Monday evening, Nov. 17, from 6:30- 8:30 pm at the Allen Cranney Mortuary, 420 E. 1800 N., North Logan, and Tuesday prior to the service from 10:00-11:30 am.
