Floyd L. Benitz
Floyd L. Benitz, died at his home early Sunday
morning, January 25, 2004. He was born in
Independence, Kansas and spent his boyhood years in
St. Joseph, Missouri and Detroit, Michigan. Floyd held
graduate degrees in school psychology and special
education administration. He served in many public
school and college teaching positions in those fields
during his 50 year career in Detroit, MI, White
Plains, NY, and Boston, MA. His most recent positions
were with the Unita Co. School District, No. 4 in Mt.
View, Wyoming from 1984 - 1999 and since 2000 was
serving as School Counselor for East Sandy Elementary
in Sandy, Utah.
Floyd was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church,
Logan and an active participant in Logan's Boy Scout
Troop #1. Floyd was a founding member of Mt. Regional
Services in Evanston, Wyoming serving adults with
disabilities. Throughout his career and personal life
Floyd has worked to support children and families and
especially those with disabilities and other special
needs. He loved gardening and travel and will be
remembered by his family for the many trips together.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine and children
Jonathan and Bethany of Logan, Chris and Jamie Benitz
of San Francisco, CA, Kirsten and Desmar Woitek of Oak
Hill, VA, Jeff Benitz of Lincoln, ME and grandson Odin
Woitek. Preceding him in death are his parents and son
Perry Benitz.
Floyd was a very caring and giving person and in lieu
of flowers the family requests that those wishing to
honor his memory contribute to the charitable
community organization of their choice. A visitation
will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East
Center Street, Logan, on Friday January 30 from 6:00
to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:30-11:50 a.m. A
memorial service will also be held at the Mortuary on
Saturday January 31 at 12:00 noon.
