Grant L. Ballam
RIVER HEIGHTS – Grant L. Ballam,75, passed away
unexpectedly at home on April 28th, 2004.
Grant
was born November 20th, 1928 in Hyde Park, Utah to
Oral and Delis Ballam. Grant was raised with one older
brother Oral Lynn. He married his high school
sweetheart, Marianne Fullmer, of Benson, on June 18th,
1948 in the Logan Temple. Grant graduated from North
Cache High School in 1947 and from the College of
Pharmacy at Idaho State University in 1951 with
honors.
Grant was a starter for the basketball team at
North Cache High in 1946. This team was the
Cinderella story of the state basketball tournament,
beating powerful East High 32-18 for the state title.
Grant began his career in Pharmacy at Kennedy Drug in
Logan from 1951 to 1959. On March 30th, 1959 Grant’s
Pharmacy opened its doors. Grant worked diligently for
almost 40 years until February 28th, 1998.
Grant was a faithful member of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in
numerous callings in the Church. Grant served as
Branch President in a Student Branch at Utah State
University and had such love for the students in the
3rd Branch. Grant was a wonderful husband and father
of three boys, Michael, Richard and Robert, all of
Logan. He was a dedicated father, supporting them in
all aspects of their lives. This support continued
with his grandchildren. The day Grant died he had
attended a Logan High School tennis match watching
three of his grandsons compete. Watching tennis, and
ball games, at home with grandchildren, brought a
great deal of joy to Grant during his battle with
cancer.
He was a proud supporter of Aggie athletics.
Grant was also a fighter, but a fighter without enemy.
Cancer was a formidable opponent that took his life
this week. However, he fought with honor and dignity.
Grant is survived by his wife Marianne; his “son
#1”, Michael (Laurie) Ballam, his “son #2", Richard
(Beki) Ballam and his “son #3” Robert (Kimber) Ballam;
14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and one brother,
Oral Lynn (Tacy) Ballam. He was preceded in death by
his parents.
