Grace Bettles Van Dyke Kennedy
As tenaciously as the last leaf of autumn clings to the bough, Grace Kennedy clung to life. She returned home to her Heavenly Father on September 11, 2003 in Logan, Utah. She was born March 6, 1923 in Salt Lake City to Harry Thomas Bettles and Siddie Verna Dearden.
While growing up, she and her parents moved constantly back and forth across the country. She attended twelve different high schools, six in her senior year. She graduated from East High School in Salt Lake.
She was blessed with many talents. She loved to sing and dance and as she was always extremely theatrical, she performed on stage in many local productions during her youth. Very photogenic, her face graced the pages of many newspaper advertisements and photographer’s studios. Hours were spent in front of an easel as she created beautiful oil paintings. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and crafts of all kinds. These works of art will be treasured by her family.
On September 10, 1942, she married Frank L. Van Dyke in Preston, Idaho. They were later divorced. She married Sterling Kennedy in Oak Harbor, Washington in 1966. After his death, she moved to Logan, Utah in 1996 to be closer to her family.
She is survived by a son, Bruce (Nan) Van Dyke, Newport Beach, California; a daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Jeniene Van Dyke) Hamson, North Logan, Utah; a grandson, Bret (Margie) Adamson, Benson; a granddaughter, Heather Adamson, Logan; and a great-granddaughter, Tristen Adamson.
Graveside services will be performed in the Ogden City Cemetery on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at 3:00 PM.. Funeral Directors, Allen-Cranney Mortuary, North Logan, Utah.
The family is so appreciative to the Sunshine Terrace staff for the patience and understanding they have shown Grace throughout the years.
