Gwendolyn Lund Vest
Josephine Gwendolyn Lund Vest, 91, of Providence,
Utah, died Monday, May 3, 2004 at the Logan Regional
Hospital after a brief illness. Gwen was born on
December 30, 1912, in Salt Lake City, Utah to A.
William and Josephine Brown Lund.
She married H. Grant Vest in the Salt Lake City LDS
Temple on October 20, 1933. They resided in Vernal,
Utah and then moved to Logan, Utah in 1948. In 1952,
Gwen received her BS from Utah State University. In
1953, Gwen and Grant moved to Denver, Colorado, where
Gwen began her 25-year career as an elementary school
teacher in the Cherry Hills School District. After
retiring in 1977, she was a substitute teacher in the
Denver public schools until 1999, when she moved to
Providence, Utah. At the time of her death, she was
volunteering in the Providence Elementary School.
She was devoted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and
served in many capacities in the LDS Church,
especially enjoying being the chorister in Primary.
In her later years, she served as her ward music
chair, and in Providence, she enthusiastically served
as a visiting teaching supervisor. Gwen was active in
many civic and service organizations including Delta
Kappa Gamma and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She
lived independently in her home in Providence where
she enjoyed gardening and attending local cultural
events.
She is survived by her three children, Grant (Gayle)
of Providence, Utah, Ann Lobb (Gary) of Chatsworth,
California, and Jolyne Hatch of Naperville, Illinois;
13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Her
husband, Grant, died in 1972, in Denver, Colorado.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7, 2004, at
12:00 noon at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center
Street, Logan, Utah. There will be a viewing Thursday
evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the
services. Interment will be in the Providence
Cemetery.

to the Utah State University Foundation, the Gwendolyn
Lund Vest Scholarship Fund, 2800 Old Main Hill, Logan,
Utah 84322-2800.
