Helen Lillian Erickson
Logan, Utah: Helen Lillian Young Worley Erickson, our
wonderful, loving, mother,
grandmother, great grandmother, and mend, was taken
home to her Heavenly Father on Monday,
January 26, 2004. She was 88 years old.
She was born
in Logan, Utah, on November 20, 1915, the
fifth child of James Floyd Young and Helen Margaret
Clark Young. The family lived in Logan and
Lewiston, Utah, and in Lago, Niter, and Grace, Idaho,
where she enjoyed swimming, fishing, and
sleeping outdoors. She attended grade school in Grace,
Idaho, and attended Jr. High and High school
in Logan, Utah.
She met a kind, gentle loving man, Harry Alfonzo
"Foney" Worley and they were married
July 29, 1936 in the Logan LDS temple. They were
faithful and active in the Logan second ward.
Helen loved to attend the temple with her husband.
They had 7 daughters and one son. Her husband
died on February 8, 1968, at the age of 62.
She married Willis Erickson in September 18, 1972.
They lived in Richmond, Utah. Until his
death in 1985, he accompanied her to the Festival of
the American West, where she demonstrated
homemade soap. She continued this after his death, and
spent more than 20 years sharing this special
pioneer skill.
Helen was friendly to everyone. She opened her home to
many people in need, regardless of
their background or circumstances. She loved sharing
her testimony of the LDS church and had
many missionary contacts. Over 40 of the people she
worked with were baptized into the LDS
church.
She enjoyed working hard, reading scriptures and the
church magazines, attending the
temple, and singing in the 5th ward choir. She loved
the hymns, and would invite a group of friends
to her home every Sunday evening for a hymn sing along
and testimony sharing.
She is survived by five daughters and a son: Helen
(Raymond) Gnehm, Wellsville, Utah,
Dorothy (William) McCarrey, Richmond, Utah, Rachel
(Morris) Hall, Malta, Idaho, Laura (Dale)
King, Provo, Utah, Leone (Jay) Rodebush, Logan, Utah,
& David Alfonzo (Aurelia) Worley, Logan,
Utah,. She is also survived by a loving sister and
brother, Emeline Watts, Logan, Utah, and Ernest J.
(Louise) Young, Soda Springs, Idaho. Two daughters,
Lucille Worley and Sherry Lynn Worley,
preceded her in death.
She often expressed her gratitude for the many
kindnesses extended to her by neighbors,
friends, and family. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31,
2004 at 12:00 noon in the Logan 5th
Ward Chapel, 502 East 300 North. Friends and family
may call on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at
the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street and at
the Church on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 am.
prior to services. Burial will be in the Logan City
Cemetery.
