Jonathan "Jack" Raymond Bowen
LOGAN, UTAH: Jonathan “Jack” Raymond Bowen, 89, of
Logan, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great
grandfather, uncle and friend passed away Easter
Sunday, April 11, 2004 at the Logan House Assisted
Living surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 29, 1914 in Logan, Utah a son of
William Potter and Mary Ann Raymond Bowen. He married
his lifetime companion of 70 years, Marjorie Ida
Quinney on January 13, 1934. Their marriage was later
solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on March 17, 1966.
Jack was a member of the Logan Golf and Country Club,
which he served on the Board of Directors. He was an
Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge of Logan. He was an
active member of the Intermountain Oil Marketers
Association and the Logan Rotary Club. Jack had served
as secretary of the High Priests Group in the Logan
24th Ward.
Jack was the founder of Jack’s Tire and Oil Co. As
this business was growing he also had a franchise for
Kaiser-Frazer automobiles as well as General Electric
Appliances. Jacks Tire and Oil Co. now serves people
in Utah and Idaho.
Jack was an avid sportsman and spent many hours
fishing on the streams of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. He
also enjoyed hunting pheasants, ducks and geese. His
greatest love was hunting deer and elk at The Clubs
Lodge in Round Valley. Jack was an avid golfer,
spending many hours on the Logan Golf and Country Club
course. Jack and Marj were fortunate enough to have
traveled extensively during their lifetime.
His humorous spirit and personality will be remembered
by all!
Jack is survived by his steadfast wife, Marjorie, two
daughters and one son, Katherine Jean Williams, New
Canaan, Connecticut; Jonathan David and La Rae Bowen,
Logan; Jacque and Bruce Shields, Strongsville, Ohio;
eight grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, a
brother-in-law, Reed Bullen, Logan; numerous nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
four sisters, Katherine Bullen, Dorothy Crockett, Mama
Gardner, Helen Dewitt and one brother, William.
A very special thanks to the staff at the Logan
Sunshine Terrace, Williamsburg, and most recently, The
Logan House Assisted Living for improving and
maintaining the quality of his life over the past four
years. Also thanks to IHC Hospice, Dr. Steven
Salisbury and the Allen-Hall Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 16, 2004
at 12:00 pm in the Allen-Hall Mortuary. Friends may
call at the mortuary Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00
pm and on Friday from 10:30 – 11:45 am. Interment will
be in the Logan City Cemetery.
