John H. Broberg
Logan- John H. Broberg was born in Logan, Utah on June
7, 1914 to John C. and Ragnhild T. Broberg. He died on
July 30, 2003 from complications incident to
congestive heart disease.
He was a life-long resident
of Cache Valley where he attended local schools. He
graduated from Logan High School and Utah State
University. He married Jane Rasmussen on October 10,
1941 in the Logan Temple. They were parents of three
children: Thomas J. (LaDawn) Broberg, Bountiful, Utah;
Julie (Paul) Puzey, Roy Utah; and Carl Jed Broberg
(deceased).
John was a High Priest in the Logan Tenth Ward of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having
served in various teaching and leadership positions.
John was an educator throughout the majority of his
working life. He taught high school in Hamer and Ammon
Idaho. He spent 37 years of his 42 years of teaching
at South Cache and Sky View High Schools. John coached
basketball, track, and assisted with the football
program. He served as advisor to the student council,
graduation co-chairman and assistant principal.
John's
teaching career was interrupted to serve in the U.S.
Army during World War II.. He spent summer breaks as a
brick layer and stone mason on many architectural
structures located between Montpellier, Idaho and
Ogden, Utah John served as president of the local
Bricklayers Union. His service activities included
membership in Hyrum's Lions Club where he also served
as president.
John was active in a number of sporting activities. He
was a member of the Utah State University men's
basketball program. One of the big thrills he often
talked about was playing basketball in Madison Square
Garden in New York City. After graduating from the
University, he became active in the A-Men's Club where
he served one year as president. John was an avid
fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife, 2 children, a sister; lIah
(Lorin) Renner; eight grandchildren: Michelle Puzey,
Nicole Broberg, Kathy Puzey, Erika (Jason) Nolin, Mike
Puzey, Jenny (Omar) Morales, Jed Broberg, and John
Broberg; and one great-grandchild, Matthew Fassler. He
was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers,
2 sisters, and a son.
John was a man of great integrity, humor, courage,
and devotion. He will be
remembered for his strong love of family and friends.
John will be highly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2,
2003, 11 :00 am at the
Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, Utah.
Friends and family may call Friday, August 1 st, 6:30
to 8:00 pm and Saturday,
August 2nd, 9:00 to 10:30 am at the mortuary.
Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery. In lieu
