Joseph Milton Campbell
PROVIDENCE, UTAH: Joseph Milton Campbell, 49, passed
away Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at the LDS Hospital in
Salt Lake City, after winning the battle with cancer
he suffered complications from the chemotherapy
treatment.
Joe was born January 25, 1954, in Logan, Utah. He
grew up working alongside his father on the family
farm. In addition to farming in Providence, he was
active in 4-H and many cattle shows throughout the
west. At the age of 14, he was President of the
Junior Hereford Association for the state of Utah.
Joe graduated from Sky View High School in 1972. He
served two years in the Helsinki Finland Mission.
Upon returning home he married his loving companion
Debbie Stevens. They were married in the Logan Temple
on November 14, 1975. While attending Utah State
University and many summers after that, Joe worked
construction for LeGrand Johnson Construction Company.
He was also a bus driver for Cache County School
District. Joe received his bachelor’s degree in Math
with a minor in Chemistry from Utah State University
in 1980. He began his teaching career at South Cache
Junior High School as a math teacher. He developed
the photo department when Mountain Crest High School
began in 1983.
During his twenty years at Mountain
Crest he taught photo, chemistry, newspaper, math,
yearbook, multi-media, computer repair, and driver’s
education.
He retired this year from Cache County
School District and was very excited to begin his new
position as Technology Director for Rich County School
District. In the summer of 1996 he also began
teaching as a Northern Utah Regional Trainer for the
Utah Education Network where he trained 500+ teachers.
Joe was a developer and teacher of On-Line
Pre-Algebra and Photography Courses for the Electronic
High School. He was also serving on the Educator
Development Advisory Committee. He was a leader of
the state-wide organization of in-service trainers and
leaders called C-Forum.
He served as a city councilman for Providence City for
the past seven years.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints where he enjoyed the blessings of
going to the temple. He served as a counselor in
three bishoprics, Elder’s Quorum President, Gospel
Doctrine Instructor, Stake Young Men’s President, and
various other callings. He was also very involved in
Boy Scout training programs (ELI).
Joe enjoyed snowmobiling with his family, fly-fishing,
photography, camping, boating, hunting, gardening, and
working with his three boys and father. But what Joe
enjoyed most was spending time in Bear Lake with his
family at their cabin.
He is survived by: his wife, Debbie Stevens Campbell,
his three sons, Chad (Michelle) of Benson, Jake and
Lance of Providence; his parents, Milton and Sharon
Campbell of Providence, his mother-in-law, Linda
Stevens of Benson, his two sisters, Anne Campbell of
Smithfield, Kayla (Todd) Miller of Layton, one
granddaughter, Hannah Campbell, and many other loving
relatives. He is preceded in death by his
grandparents, Dorothy and Ed Kerr of Tremonton, Vera
and Joseph Campbell of Providence, his uncle, Clyde
Joseph Campbell of Providence, his father-in-law, Fred
Stevens of Benson, and sister-in-law, Jill Stevens of
Benson.
His family was most important to him. He will be
greatly missed by his family and friends. Special
thanks for the loving care given to Joe by the staff
at the LDS Hospital and to all those who came to
visit, called, or sent cards.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Sept.
12, 2003, at the Providence Stake Center. A viewing
will be held from 6 to 8 on Thursday evening at
Allen-Hall Mortuary, and at 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Friday
at the Stake Center. Internment will be in the
Providence Cemetery.
