Kelly Joe Meier
On December 29, 1986, a beautiful boy was born to
Gerald Joe and Jan Olson Meier in Logan, Utah. He left
us on May 4, 2004 doing what he loved most, riding on
his four-wheeler.
The first words out of Kelly's mouth was "putt-putt"
and he hasn't stopped talking about tractors ever
since. He loved doing anything that had to do with a
farm and had a great love for animals. He brought home
more stray animals than anybody we know. He worked on
the family farms in Smithfield and Lewiston, taking
great pride in all his accomplishments, most
especially the animals he raised.
Kelly didn't care for school, but he always had to be
the first one there. He went to school in Smithfield
and was almost finished with his junior year at Sky
View. He was a member of the FFA and loved taking meat
cutting classes at BATC.
Kelly, though only 17, learned and did a lot in his
short time. He traveled with family to Europe in 2001,
Disneyland and a trip to the west coast, but his
all-time favorite vacation was staying home to work on
the farm. He enjoyed tinkering with motors and being
with his friends. He loved hunting, fishing and
camping and was especially close to a devoted friend,
Devin Hillyard.
Kelly is survived by his loving parents Jerry and Jan,
two brothers Tony (Lindsay) of Logan and Scott of
Smithfield, two loving grandmothers Joan Olson of
Smithfield and Florence (Tootie) Meier of Lewiston,
several aunts, uncles and cousins who will all miss
him deeply. He was preceded in death by grandfathers
Richard Meier and Arland Olson and a loving aunt,
Barbara Olson.
A viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary
Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again from 10:30 to 11 :30
Monday. Graveside services will be at the Smithfield
City Cemetery at 12:00 noon.
We love you Kelly Joe. You will never leave our
hearts or our thoughts. We know you've just gone to do chores.
Kelly was an organ donor and we are sure this poem
would sum up his feelings:
"Give my sight to a man who has never seen a sunrise,
a baby; fall in love
in the eyes of a woman.
Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused
nothing but
Endless days of pain.
Give my blood to a teenager who was pulled from the
wreckage of his car
So that he might live to see his grandchild play.
Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to
exist from week to week.
Take my bones, even muscle, even fiber and nerve and
find a way to make
A crippled child walk.
If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my
weakness and all prejudices
Against my fellow man.
Give my sins to the Devil; Give my soul to God.
If by chance you wish to remember me, do it with a
kind deed or word to
Someone who needs you.
If you do all I ask I will live forever."
