NAME
L. Everett (Ev) Harris, 86, passed away quietly at his
home in Logan on May 22, 2004.
Ev was born the 13th of March, 1918 in Beaver, Utah
where he grew up and graduated from Beaver High. His
parents were Lester Harris and Lora Jean Burt. He
married Margaret Barton on March 7, 1937. They came
to Logan during the depression and settled in
Studentville on the Utah Agricultural College campus.
On the 13th of June 1944 he left his wife and two
young children to serve in the 10th Mountain Division
during WWII. He participated in the Italian Offensive
before his return on October 20, 1945.
After the war he and Margaret moved to 300 West in
Logan. They remodeled a small clapboard house into a
beautiful family home. Margaret died in May of 1990.
Ev married Elaine Evans later that summer, on August
4th. Ev and Elaine remained on 300West for a number
of years, eventually moving to 330 N 300 East, where
they have lived for the past 4 years.
Ev was known in the community for his service with the
Boy Scouts of America, an organization he was firmly
committed to all his life. He received the Silver
Beaver and 60 year veteran award among many others. A
few of the callings he fulfilled in his years of
service in the LDS Church were Scout Master,
Councilor, Bishop, Stake High Council member and
employment service missionary.
His life employment involved managing Ace Mill and
Fixture, a Logan business well known for building high
quality cabinets for hundreds of projects all over the
nation. His tremendous artistic and management
ability made this a thriving business for about 40
years. It was not just a business with Ev, he admired
the men who worked in the shop and their tremendous
skills. He often said they were the ones who made the
business a success.
Despite an extremely busy life serving church,
community and business, he was a good father and
husband. He is survived by his wife Elaine, children
and step children, Phillip (Jeniel) Harris, Margaret
Ann (Eric) Southworth, Lelia (Brad) Allred, Joseph
(Carolyn) Harris, Lloyd (Dorothy) Ruple, Bonnie (Dan)
Zollinger, JoLynn (Steve) Hickman, and sisters Louise
Egan and Lora Jean Cherry. He was preceded in death
by his wife Margaret, children and step children,
Stephen Ray Harris, Rodney Ruple, and Clint Ruple, and
a brother Fred Harris.
Funeral services are on Tuesday, May 25, at the Logan
1st Ward Chapel, 89 South 200 West, Logan. A viewing
