Maria A. Waddoups
LOGAN, UTAH: Maria A. Waddoups, 90, Our beloved
mother, grandmother, aunt, great grandmother and
precious friend peacefully returned to her heavenly
father and husband George on the morning of December
30, 2003 in Logan, Utah. She was born to Andrew N. and
Rachel F. Anderson on November 10, 1913 in Downey,
Idaho.
Maria was the youngest of eleven children. She was
working in Moreland, Idaho when
she received a call to go on her first of five
missions. She married George Q. Waddoups , in the Salt
Lake LDS Temple on June 14, 1939. Maria and George
were foster parents to over 18 children in their home.
It was one of her greatest joys. She loved to
garden and tend to her flowers. Many over the years
have enjoyed her beautiful tulips, irises and lilacs.
Some would stop just to see the wonderful sight and
she would invite
them to pick all they wanted. Maria loved to quilt and
was very talented, winning many
blue ribbons with over 1800 quiltops. Her waiting
list was sometimes over a year long for a quilt.
She
was a member of the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers and
in March 2003 received the Utah Women's Achievement
Award presented by Governor Leavitt. She was a very
active member of the Logan 2nd Ward serving over the
years as a Sunday School Teacher, visiting teacher,
Relief Society President, Young Women's leader and had
the honor of being called to five missions .Her latest
calling was that of a greeter and what an angel of
a greeter she was, there was never a soul that did not
receive a warm smile and hug as
they entered Church on Sunday.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, seven
brothers; Paul, Ray, Archie, Edwin, Lehi, Alma, and
Ferdinand Anderson, three sisters; Baby Anderson, Elna
and Sine (Edna) Anderson as well as her mother and
father.
Maria is survived by her daughter, Vickie (Larry)
Nicholls of Logan; granddaughters; Billie Jo (Michael)
Glabe, Christie (Stephen) Stock, grandson, Clint
(LaNae) Nicholls all of Logan, two great-great
grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She had special relationships with her Great
Grandchildren; Joshua, Natasha, Nikyla, C.J., Colten,
Tyler, Lindsey and Lauren.
Maria was a friend and inspiration to so many, she
always had time to tell you a story or just listen and
give you a hug, pick flowers with the little ones or
volunteer for any project. To many she was Grandma.
She was surrounded by family at the time of her death.
She will be missed terribly, but always remain in our
hearts and memories. She is our Guardian Angel.
