LOGAN, UTAH: Ruth Skabelund Stockdale, 83, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 from cancer at her home in Logan, Utah.She was born May 21,1921, to John and Amanda Skabelund.

She graduated from Logan High School in 1939 and attended Utah State College before obtaining employment in the bookkeeping department at the First National Bank in Logan.

Ruth married Howard Dee Stockdale, October 26, 1942, while he was home on furlough from the military. She was then able to be with him while he was stationed in Amarillo, Texas; and later sent to attend M.I.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Then she returned to Logan and lived with her parents until the end of World War II in 1945.

After the unexpected death of her husband in March of 1974, Ruth found employment in the office at Gossner Cheese. She worked there 15 happy years before retiring at age 69.

Ruth has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has held many positions including Primary teacher, Primary President, and Counselor in Relief Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Rex & Mark Skabelund, and 3 sisters, Luna (Fred) Kidgell, Florence (Lincoln) Orme, and Grace (Bill) Grigg.

She is survived by her brother, Wayne Skabelund, and her five children: John Dee Stockdale, Fullerton, CA; Susan Stockdale, Logan, UT; Frances (Rick) Warren, Gooding, ID; Richard Dee Stockdale, Logan, UT; Patricia Stockdale, Logan, UT; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12:00 pm in the Allen-Hall Mortuary with Bishop Randall Craner conducting. Friends and family may call from 10:30 - 11:30 am. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
