Verda Hicken
LOGAN, UTAH: Verda Hicken passed away on Saturday,
November 29,2003 in Logan. Verda was born in Heber
City, Utah on September 18, 1915, the oldest daughter
of Elijah Moulton and Erma Jensen Hicken. She received
her early schooling in Salt Lake City, Cowley,
Wyoming, Hinckley Utah, and Richmond, Utah. She
graduated from North Cache High School, LDS Business
College, and BYU.
Verda was gifted in music and played the piano, organ,
and violin. She was the organist in the Primary, and
she and her mother often played duets together.
She a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints and held several positions in the
auxiliaries of the Church. Verda was an avid
genealogist and spent countless hours doing family
research. She worked in the sealing department of the
Logan Temple for 13 years but had to quit to take care
of her aging parents. She still continued to served in
Church callings by writing the ward newsletter and the
ward history. She wrote countless words of
encouragement to people who were shut in or had
problems. She was a true Christian as her personal
testimony stated, "As God is, I can become if I follow
the plan he laid out for me."
Verda is survived by her siblings Dean (Marion) Hicken
of Logan, Fay (George) Jarvis of Provo, Rhea (Val)
Black (California), Leon (Colleen) Hicken of
California, and a sister-in-law, Colleen Hicken of
Ogden. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.
Hugh Hicken (brother), Joann
Palmer (sister), and Dennis Hicken (nephew).
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 3,
2003 at 11:00 am in the Allen-Hall Mortuary chapel, 34
East Center, Logan with a viewing one hour prior to
services. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm
in the Heber City Cemetery.
