Selpha Marie Nielsen Reed
HYDE PARK, UTAH: Zelpha Marie Nielsen Reed, 92,
passed away at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
on Thursday, November 6,2003. She lived many years
with health problems which caused her great pain. She
is now at peace and enjoying freedom from pain.
Zelpha was the 8th child of 10 born to Lettie Sorena
Petersen and Thomas Lars
Nielsen. She was born in Hyde Park, Utah on January
7,1911.
She attended schools in Hyde Park and also at North
Cache High School, graduating in the top of her class.
She lived most of her life in California, living in
Huntington Park, Santa Rosa, and Sacramento. She was a
secretary for Pioneer Flint Co. for 14 years.
Zelpha met the love of her life while living in
California. She married Jacque Clemo Reed in
California, and was later sealed in the Logan Temple.
After his conversion to the LDS church, they served as
stake missionaries in California. He passed away after
just 15 short years together, of a heart attack while
attending Priesthood Meeting. She served in many
church callings but especially loved her callings in
music.
In 1973, she returned to live in Hyde Park where she
could be around family who could help her with her
needs. She loved doing genealogy work especially for
Jacque's family.
Because of her strong will and help of others, she was
able to stay in her own home for a long time. With the
loving care of Rocky Mountain Hospice and Dr. Glenn
Mortensen, she was able to be at home a little longer.
Logan Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center became
her last place of residence. A special thanks to those
who cared for her.
She is survived by one step daughter, Pearl Mahoney,
of California, Sisters, Terese Nielsen, Long Beach,
California, Lorna Rasmussen, Hyde Park, Utah and a
brother Theon Nielsen of Lewiston, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Jacque, her parents and seven brothers and
sisters. She also leaves behind many nieces and
nephews and great nieces and nephews who loved her as
they would a grandmother. A special thanks to those
loved ones who lived close and took care of her daily
needs, Lorna Rasmussen, Marlo and Lettie Marie Lamb
and Family, Paul and Mary Jane Rasmussen, and Terese
Nielsen, who would come from California frequently to
help out.
She was a real sweet special caring lady whom was
loved dearly. One little great nephew, Braxton, age
five, prayed the night she passed away, "Thanks for
sending a special spirit to love us!" We all felt of
her love. Good bye for a while!
